Randle probably feels a lot better right now. Maybe we'll be able to get Bron and PG while still having our young core, including Randle? If so - awesome! I would really prefer to keep him if possible.
I’m glad he will be here until the summer. If all we were going to get for him was a 2nd rounder, you don’t make that deal. Now he gets to continue to help us win games, he’s even more needed with Larry gone, and maybe we have a shot at re-signing him for a good price, trading him draft day should we want to go that route, or even in a sign and trade. I like that we kept all options open though, he’s earned his spot for the rest of this year.
Hopefully this means we are keeping Randle. He is just too good and has too much room to grow to get rid of. He is worth whatever we have to pay just to watch him knock people around and hear them cry....lol. The speed and power he has in pushing the ball up court is incredible. Keeo Randle!! With out World Peace we have to have a bruiser and Randle is certainly that.
This to me is If you're old man LeBron or more svelte and smooth PG why would either of them not want Julius on their team to help when it gets f****** physical out there in the playoffs not to mention the switch every ******* thing they could build with all these tall athletic guys with skills.
I was just thinking about this and wanted to get everyones take, because its making me a little uneasy. What if this scenario happens: July 1st rolls around and say a team like Dallas who is one of the few teams that has some money this off-season makes a huge contract offer to Randle who is a restricted free agent. They would do this because they know the Lakers want to meet with PG and LBJ first before deciding on Randle's future (if we don't get them, we would be happy to sign Randle bacl). By making an offer sheet on Randle the Lakers have what, 3-4 days, to match or he goes to Dallas. Meanwhile 3-4 days isn't enough to meet with both PG and LBJ and for them to make up their mind. Wouldn't we lose Randle for nothing in this case because other teams are putting the pressure on us. And before fans get made, even if we had traded Randle today it was just 2nd round picks teams were really offering so that isn't that great either. Thoughts?
the theory is that since we have done favors for pg/james agent respectively, they should give us an answer relatively quick
^Remember when James dragged his last free agency before going back to The Land? Yeah, something like that...
I think we are hoping we can dump Deng with our picks in some form or fashion so we can fit the two stars and Randle's cap hold.
no way that both PG and LBJ make there decisions within 3-4 days of FA starting. I don't believe that.
This is indeed a fear, but we should know during the moratorium period how George and LeBron are leaning. The moratorium starts on July 1st while contracts cannot be signed until July 6th. There's 6 days for us to get a feel of whether or not we're in the running and likely to get them. If we are, we let Julius go sign his deal. We can also make a trade as soon as the deadline hits as well so we could dump Luol the second FA hits. If we talk to Randle's agent and promise him a certain amount of money, we might be able to time this thing so that we sign LeBron, George, and the rest of the FAs and then once everyone is signed, we give Julius a massive contract as well. He'll just have to trust Magic and Rob. If he signs an offer sheet while we're in the middle of our process, well then we're probably going to lose him for nothing and that's just the way it goes. We could indeed end up empty handed with no Julius, no George, and no LeBron.
Ramona or someone on the jump said we could make a reasonable qualifying offer to Randle and then go after LeBron/George and pull the offer if needed or if some other team made him a huge offer or something. I’m not quite sure how it all works, but I don’t think if we continue to play Randle in the role he’s getting right now, starting and finishing games, that he’d screw us over. He’d probably inform us quickly if he were moving on for the big payday. Even more likely we are always touching bases with him on the situation and know what it will take to keep him, if he does want to stick around, or if both sides know they’ll be moving on this offseason. Yes, we can lose him for nothing, but it’s better to take the gamble on that than trading him for a 2nd round pick.
