Didn’t see the game, 17 points and 7 boards in 17 minutes..because..? Nance is playing 27 and Randle gets 17. I’ve hated on him a lot, but I’m confused, he’s playing well.
At some point he has to play more. I've been hard on Randle too, but this season he is making some actual basketball plays. Not sure if hes making good passes and reads on purpose or if hes getting lucky. But its also hard to argue with the results. Randle and Nance are both playing well in their respective roles.
Julius is finally becoming the player we’ve all wanted him to be and knew he was capable of. Defensively he’s shown the most growth, but offensively so much more under control and also playing more within flow of offense. He’s setting good screens. Making plays. Love his help defense and ability to switch. Keep it up Julius.
He's eating against those opposing 2nd units. He deserves minutes, but lets leave his current role alone. Let him close out the games as our small ball 5, with Zo, KCP, BI and Kuz. Nance has equally deserved minutes but he's not in a contract year and is a great teammate to not make a big stink about losing minutes to Randle. So even tho Nance deserves to close out games, give that role to Randle as the small ball 5. Not to mention, with him coming off the bench, we're sparing him from picking up early fouls and allowing him to play his "runaway locomotive" style all while having him available to close out games.
There was one trip down court that Julius was seriously flying. No one got him the ball, but it was shocking how fast he is.
I'd like to see ONE game, just ONE game where he doesn't run someone over and get a charge. haha . He has improved. Hope he gets more minutes.
In the past 5 games he's gone: (20.2 minutes per game) 12.6 pts 67.5 fg% 6.0 reb 2.0 ast 1.2 blk 0.6 stl He's going at 120% so I'm sure his production will drop off, but here are his PER36 numbers: 22.4 pts (67.5 fg%) 10.7 reb 3.6 ast 2.1 blk 1.1 stl I understand what Luke is saying. Julius is playing at an energy level that is not sustainable for an entire game. He still shouldn't be getting less minutes than Nance (23.7) and Kuzma (26.6) Shuffle their playing time to: Randle: 27+ minutes Kuzma: 27+ minutes Nance: 16+ minutes
Given his activity and productivity, I'd say if he's not happy about it he's still performing well. Like Weezy, I didn't see the game, but the numbers are tremendous and @CaCHooKa Man 's highlights show a version of Randle that everyone can appreciate.
Agreed. I'd say our whole forward rotation is settling into their roles and that we should stick with it.
If this is his role and minutes, he's gone. He wouldn't be worth signing to a big, long-term extension for 20 minutes a game which means (barring we don't sign PG-13 and LBJ) we extend the QO, another team offers 13 million, we let him walk.
If we're being pragmatic, Julius is escalating his trade value. At the deadline, someone like Atlanta might be willing to part with a protected 1st for the kind of guy we're seeing right now. Nobody is going to eat Deng's contract to get to him probably, but he's going to be worth something. Someone will invest in him. But honestly if he plays like this and signs a Clarkson-esque extension or something I'm down to keep him. He's better than a bench player and he's coming off the bench. That's vital to great teams. Right now he's in the Lamar Odom territory.
He is playing above Odom territory. Despite the lackluster 2 games starting the season, Julius is the only Laker with a PER above 20. Odom's career high was a 19.4 PER. Randle has been our best player and it's not even close. I don't know why everyone's in a hurry to trade our best player.
I'm not in a hurry, I'm just being pragmatic. I didn't demand he get traded at all, but I'm being realistic. If we could get a 1st for him, that's a good trade. And I'm not going to be quick to put him above Lamar Odom based on a small sample size. He's playing great right now, but it's in extremely limited action. Lamar was instrumental to winning two championships. Randle should be happy to be as important to the team.
Listen I want Randle to succeed, cause if he sticks, he's part of our young core going forward and if he doesn't, he makes for great trade bait. But better than LO? Nah brah! First of all LO played more minutes per game and more games overall. This sample can't be compared to what LO did....For championship teams at that. Let's pump those breaks real fast. Real was saying if Randle continues he's in LO territory...But surpassing him, I highly doubt that's what he meant. It just isn't sustainable. He's super efficient cause of the controlled minutes. I'm okay with upping his minutes, but as he approaches 30 mins per, his PER will nose dive. His style of play and tempo is perfect for short bursts against non-starters. You have him start games against savvy front line players...he heads to the bench real fast and doesn't see extended time in the clutch, as a result. Btw, I don't know about best player but in terms of most influential player ...based off net production off and on the court....As BI goes, so do these Lakers.
