Because this is Julius 4th year in the league. He should be getting better, but he's not. His moves are extremely predictable and he's a ball stopper. Every time he touches the ball, instead of reading the offense, he put his head down and ran straight to the basket with that ugly tear shots of his. Opponents are still not respecting his jumpers. They gave him 2 feet of space whenever he touches the ball. Instead of take the wide open jump shots, he make the same moves and try to bull doze everyone in the paint. I believe he got blocked about 3 times last night making those moves. He also needs to stop making so many pump fakes in the paint. He ain't Kobe and no ones falls for his pump fakes. He's very lucky that he did not get any 3 secs in the paint call from last night. I aint no scout, but by watching him the past few years, I already know exactly what his moves going to be. He's just not a smart basketball player.
Randle/Nance dont have that catch and go mentality like Kuz do, they both need it, especially randle considering he adapt at finishing decently enough in the paint with contant.
This is entirely off topic from your original point: that he's a TO machine and doesn't make people better. He's not a TO machine and we shouldn't expect him to be the player to elevate everyone else's game. You say he hasn't gotten better. I say there are plenty of signs that he has. There are also advanced metrics that are posted earlier in the thread that show he did improve multiple areas last year. He still has glaring weaknesses, but this "fake news" permeating the site that he hasn't gotten better at all is flawed. It's also preseason and this team doesn't really have an offense yet, so everyone is looking awful at times. I'll reiterate: I understand why Randle could get moved and it's likely the best decision for the team going forward. I also think that there is a lot of unfounded criticism based on completely unprecedented and unrealistic expectations. I feel like i've timetraveled back to the Lamar Odom thread circa 2004-2007.
When you compared yourself to Draymond Green: http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-news-julius-randle-compares-himself-to-draymond-green/2016/05/09/ Yet you are still not making any progress and making the same mistakes over and over again. You might be the problem. Do not trust his jumpers, and can't shoot: Check Will go to his left 90% of the time: Check Can't use his right hand: Check Beside KCP, Randle is the most seasoned in the starting lineup yet he's still doing the same thing year after year and expects the result to be different. That's the problem.
I think he's shown some of the same problems, but has shown some growth as well. I don't think he's getting enough credit for his mid-range jumper (his long-range is still extremely suspect). I don't think he is getting enough credit for effort on the defensive end. I still think he's far from recognizing things at the speed people expect though. For instance, Kuzma has the most natural ability to score the ball from almost anyone on our roster right now and it's a stark contrast to Julius who has been around now 3 years. Julius does a number of things better than Kuzma, but newer is always better in the eyes of a fan base.
Julius has already shown an improved right hand and improved jumper. He still does go left most of the time, he still can get out of control on the break, and his reads are still a little too slow. He compared himself to Green, which I agree he was premature on. It's becoming obvious he won't have that defensive impact, but he is still improving. The improvements might not be fast enough to save him being a Laker, but he's improving incrementally.
Except he has very clearly improved his mid-range and has shown some improvement with his right. Basically you're grasping at straws but have your mind made up so I'll move on.
I agree although to be fair every single one of our players, even KCP, is falling asleep on the weak side. They're HORRIBLE on the weak side of the ball.
There's no defensive leader out there to keep them constantly communicating. KCP needs to be that guy and get everyone talking and rotating.
Luke pointed out that Julius was doing a great job of communicating. I could see it, but they've got a long way to go before it's enough. Obviously they were still struggling weak side. Really everyone needs to talk constantly, the weak side especially.
I really wanted randle to do well here but guess hes typical "all muscle, no brain type"....this guy could have the build of mr. Olympia and still not be good at bball
“Show him the door”. Same lack of brains out there, idiotic charging fouls, missing gimmes at the rim. He makes a couple nice challenges at the rim, and one great dunk, that’s it, it’s not enough when his competition is easily putting up 20+ point games, every game.
To be fair, it was a bad draft. Randle at 7 felt like a steal. This is a draft where Ennis went 18th.. We could have done better with hindsight, but we could have done worse too.
Yeah a bit too many mistakes. But also a couple of great contests and that monster dunk, wow. All in all, just a preseason game with no defense being played. Don't get too up or down.
Weez, Khmrp: The basketball gods are cruel indeed, cause LaVine and McDermott got Butler and Melo. If there was such a scenario last season, then we shoulda pushed hard for Cuz with Randle/Clarkson + fodder. I still feel we should hope for the Pels to implode and push for a Cuz/Rondo deal. Cause either way, they're expiring this summer and it would open up alot of possibilities with Lopez/KCP and those 2 in terms of adding another guy to the roster in 2018. But by far, the worst the bball gods have done to is nixing the CP3 deal and tanking for the likes of DLo when we were just one away from the big KAT....ugh! Which brings me to a scenario I don't even want to consider, but what the hell, I feel like cutting myself some more tonight.....did it happen again with Simmons and BI?
