Just posting something I found. I didn't test it for accuracy. I did respond though, but it appears he started at 15.4, but stated 15. Good catch.
Comparison to top 10 PF's in the league. (according to NBA.com) Post-Allstar (PER36) 1. A.Davis - 29.4 pts, 11.3 reb, 2.0 ast, 1.3 stl, 1.5 blk 56.9 TS% 2. Griffin - 19.5 pts, 7.8 reb, 5.5 ast, 0.6 stl, 0.1 blk, 55.8 TS% 3. Green - 12.3 pts, 7.8 reb, 6.9 ast, 2.8 stl, 1,6 blk, 50.5 TS% 4. Aldridge - 16.7 pts, 8.7 reb, 2.0 ast, 0.3 stl, 0.9 blk, 45.8 TS% 5. Millsap - 19.9 pts, 7.7 reb, 3.9 ast, 0.7 stl, 0.8 blk, 55.8 TS% 6. Favors - 15.0 pts, 8.9 reb, 1.8 ast, 0.7 stl, 1.3 blk, 55.9 TS% 7. Ibaka - 15.4 pts, 7.4 reb, 0.7 ast, 0.5 stl, 2.1 blk, 54.4 TS% 8. Love - N/A - INJURED 9. Porzingis - 18.5 pts, 9.1 reb, 2.4 ast, 0.4 stl, 2.8 blk, 49.4 TS% 10. Nowitzki - 19.9 pts, 10.9 reb, 1.9 ast, 0.6 stl, 0.8 blk, 56.3 TS% Average: 18.5 pts, 8.8 reb, 3.0 ast, 0.9 stl, 1.3 blk, 53.4 TS% Randle - 17.1 pts, 13.4 reb, 5.0 ast, 0.7 stl, 0.8 blk, 54.1 TS% So Randle is: 6th in scoring 1st in rebounds 3rd in assists 3rd (tied) in steals 7th (tied) in blocks 7th in efficiency Given those numbers, I'd say he's arguably a Top 10 PF already. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up right behind Davis in a couple of years.
The thing I don't like about those numbers is they don't account for his gigantic swings. He'll score 32 one night, then 10 and 12 in the next two. Most of those guys up on that list are more consistent.
You are not acting like a Laker Because if you squint your eyes, and lean to the right, you can make the stats look anyway you want.
That's a cool list, but check this: On the season, Julius ranks 25th among PFs in PER. 17th in FG%, 27th in 3pt%, 20th in FT%, 18th in PP36, 9th in RP36, 6th in AP36, and if you add up the Pts+Ast+Reb per 36, he's 7th. So he's been in production per 36, but he's done it in rather inefficient shooting. I'd put him about 12th at his position in terms of offensive production. We won't include defense. And the average of all 35 PFs who have played at least 500 minutes are 17.2 points, 2.8 assists, and 9.4 rebounds, 50.8% FGs, 53.8% TS.
I wonder where he put the cutoff. Randle's at 1700; Russell is over 1400, so not a big gap. If it's 1500, I guess we'll see where Russ is by season's end.
You're right, and most on the list are much older. Porzingis is younger and he's inconsistent too. Randle's scoring might fluctuate, but what I find encouraging is he finds other ways to contribute when his shot isn't falling. A perfect example was this past game. 8 assists and 12 rebounds.
I think he needs to be compared to starters with at least 1500 minutes or 25 mpg. Bench players play against inferior competition, and their PER36 numbers are inflated because they can exert 100% of their energy within the minutes they are given. For example, Alan Williams (who?) is 6th among PF's in PER, playing 13 mpg.
I think that's a reasonable fix to home in on starters. BTW, Alan Williams is playing incredible basketball. How many of these players is Randle better than? AD, Cousins, Towns, Griffin, Jabari Parker, LMA, Melo, Millsap, Porzingis, Green, Harris, James Johnson, and Ibaka. And that doesn't include Love. I love seeing these stats, but to use them to say he's a top 10 PF is likely to miss the point. It's a very narrow range of games, and it excludes defense. For instance, I never said that DA was better than Curry despite the fact that his numbers looked better in the first 7 games out of the ASB.
Hmm... from my list, I'd say Porzingis, Love, Ibaka, and Nowitzki should be higher up. He's somewhere in the Millsap and Favors mix. Tobias is a better player too. So Randle is currently playing like the 9-11th best PF. Melo is a SF temporarily playing as a PF so I'm not counting him in. It's like Lebron sometimes playing PF or Draymond playing small-ball C. I'm doubtful Jabari can instantly regain top form after the ACL tear, so he's disqualified for the time being. And I consider Towns a center.
I thought Julius played the same sort of lazy game I get on Russell for. I liked Russell's game yesterday 100% more than Randle's and it's not close. He showed a distinct lack of interest off the ball both offensively and defensively, he wasn't engaged. He ended up with 12 rebounds, but he should have had many more. There's never an excuse for a player of his caliber on a team like this to take only 6 shots and make only 1 of them. You cannot do that. He got by on talent last night and still ended up with a couple decent stats, but young player like him who knows he needs to bring energy shouldn't have nights like last night. I give him overall a D+ on his night.
Yeah I didn't like his body languge either. What's amazing is that he's so talented he could coast and still end up with a near triple double.
