I like Randle, he is a good guy but Faried is better yet still more undersized than Jules. Gary Harris looks good though. Plus we get rid of a bad influence.

Faried's three-year trend vs. Randle with growth projection.

    KF vs. JR's best
    72 games 81
    26.5 MPG 28.2
    12.7 PPG 11.3
    1.2 APG 1.8
    8.8 RPG 10.2
    0.7 SPG 0.7
    0.9 BPG 0.4
    53.9% FGs 42.9%

    114 ORtg 97
    106 DRtg 108

    18.3 PER 13.9

    3.8 OWS -0.3
    2.1 DWS 1.9
    5.9 WS 1.6

    0.5 OBPM -3.7
    0.4 DBPM 0.0
    0.9 BPM -3.6

    1.4 VORP -0.9

And that's just the Faried vs. Randle part.

Last year, Harris shot 35.4% from three, posted a 12.7 PER, 2.8 OWS, 1.2 DWS, 4.0 WS, 0.9 OBPM, -0.7 DBPM, 0.2 BPM, and 1.3 VORP.

For comparison, Jordan Clarkson shot 34.7%, posted a 14.3 PER, 1.7 OWS, 0.4 DWs, 2.1 WS, 0.6 OBPM, -2.0 DBPM, -1.4 BPM, and 0.4 VORP.

In his seasons with the Lakers, Nick Young has shot 37.0% on threes, a 13.7 PER, 1.2 OWS, 0.1 DWS, 1.3 WS, 0.6 OBPM, -3.8 DBPM, -3.1 BPM, and -1.1 VORP.

Harris might be a better player than Jordan Clarkson - and he's only 22 this season.

There are a couple things worth addressing here.

Faried played <25 MPG as a rookie; since then it's been in the 25-29 range each season.
He's had only one season where he missed double digit games. And that was 15 games. He has missed 26 games in the past four seasons. Julius Randle missed 82 in that same stretch.

He was in double digits in 54 of his 76 games. He hit 15+ 30 times, and he was at 20+ 5 times.

    Really? Like what?

The basketball side of this is actually intriguing. I don't really care about the Nick Young part. He won't be on the roster next season. We'll either stretch him or just tell him to stay home. Harris is a real solid young player. But it does create a logjam at the guard spot. Lou, Russell, Harris and Clarkson. Faried is the better player than Randle right now for sure, but I'm not sure it will stay like that. Randle is already the better rebounder. I think he has more potential on offense as well. Both are undersized...I think talent wise, right now, we win that trade. But I'm not sure it really helps us. We have our starting backcourt along with a combo guard to be brought in at either spot. We'd likely be looking at moving Lou in a second trade.

Just please don't use the argument that this is a good because Nick would be gone than. You don't make this kind of deal if your our FO to get ride of nick and thus having to include Randle. You would do it because you love the package of Faried and Harris.

I still wouldn't do the trade, but its nice to see the numbers breakdown that people have posted even if we only have 1 yr of Julius to look back on.

I think we all need to just calm down and not be trigger happy just to make a deal. If it doesn't make us a contender right away or put us in the playoffs, then I don't see the value vs letting a hard working, respectable and responsible lottery pick finish his second full "playing" year in the league. Let's see what he can do with a real coach before shipping him to Siberia where he can torture us for the next 15 years.

okay one freak injury compared to a guy that consistently misses games...

keyword is "can" score a lot of points.

we can get a better package than this we just have to wait for better offers if we're seriously considering trading randle.

idk trog... you're normally one of the more respected posters around here and i really don't know if it's an infatuation of faried or hate of randle as far as why you keep coming at this so seriously anyways... (specific to this trade rumor only)

Hey, man. I agree with you on Harris. I do think he's a young guy who plays a lot of minutes and can score well. He could be a 15-17 PPG guy next season, and he might be a 20 PPG scorer in the future.

Faried doesn't miss much time. 26 games in four seasons? One season with double digit games missed? That's not troublesome to me. As for Julius's injury: it wasn't just his rookie season; he had injury issues in his senior year of HS, too. Maybe they're all fixed now. Maybe they're not. I don't view either of these guys as a serious injury risk, either way.

I don't have an infatuation with Faried. I don't think of him much at all, but I think the only way to justify Randle as the better player is via the Endowment Effect. And Faried + Harris is definitely better than Randle. I can't imagine we'll get a better offer any time soon. I mean, if Randle becomes the player some Lakers fans think he will be (Charles Barkley in a Lamar Odom muscle suit with the defense and passing of Draymond Green), then, yes; we'll see awesome offers. Otherwise, I'm not sure we'll see better than this.

Maybe I'm "coming at this so seriously" because it's the offseason, and it's boring as s***. I don't have a problem with anyone here, and I'm not coming at it seriously in my mind. I'm just suggesting that Lakers fans should perk up at this.

well said. i can respect that. definitely can't wait for the season to start and I hope our young core develops some great chemistry.

we've fallen off pretty hard since the golden years and haven't recovered, not much to smile about these days esp with this kind of offseason. even with the horrible mgmt/family bickering, we'll come back sooner or later; we're the Lakers after all.

Harris is not a better player than CJ as he is not as well rounded IMO. I haven't seen too much of him but one thing I can say is he has unbelievable hands. He has such quick hands, like quicker than anyone I have seen.

I hope this is the only setback he sees this year. I am hoping for big things from Randle this season under Walton.
