Not a smart play on a contract year unless he's trying to tank his trade value. Who's his dietician? Lamar Odom?

I'm fine with keeping him around as long as it's on a reasonable salary for us to continue building a team. If he wants a long-term home here, let's work out something we can all benefit from. Low yearly rate, but a four or five year commitment is something I'm down with.

Hopefully Mitch can wave a wand and get Dragic without him, but I won't hold my breath.

Don't worry Byron, with your crappy coaching, you will be getting that line soon enough. And it won't be a joke.

The Jordan Hill anti-booze diet, i feel like we read that one before....

But in all seriousness, I liked the jab at LO (hear he has formed a barnstorming team with Panda's Friend and Emanuel Mundiay).

Ok. Back to Hill. Can we trade him when his value is high? Can we get Brook Lopez for him?

I was curious, is there any team willing to trade us a solid cast of players (wings, big guys, whatever) to rent out Jordan Hill for next season? I like Jordan Hill, but I feel we can def get some nice young talents or some solid role players to fill the roster. I like Jordan Hill a lot, but I feel Ed Davis can fill that hustler role at a much cheaper rate than Hill.

Agree. Hill looked slow vs. OKC. Kanter looked like a real big man compared to him. I think Hill is a nice piece for someone but he's got more of a stretch 4 feel to him as opposed to a 5. He'd fit alongside a center who plays low block....there are not many of them left in the league. Can't get that much back for a guy on a very cheap $9M deal. More draft picks and filler (or some other team's rookie contract bust/trash).

Trade asset. Callin' it now. Unless the Lakers think their draft picks will solve all their problems and feel like FA isn't that important which makes zero sense, then there's no reason to tie up our cash in Hill while other talent walks away.

Sounds like a guy who got half the info and ran with it thinking he had a story.

Jordan Hill man.... he's become a jump-shooting big. Not really what we need. To me, he relies on the permiter a bit too much.

@therealdeal that's only only plausible option. But if that's the case, why didn't we move him at the deadline? His play since then hasn't warranted better offers.

Cause there's no room for that salary. It limits us in free agency and there's too many bigs here that deserve PT over his nine million dollar a**.

If we go big in draft and guard in FA: Randle, Black, Kelly, Okafor/Towns/WCS, and you could bring back Davis for a much more reasonable deal and he makes a more significant contribution while on the floor. That's 5 bigs. Figure we grab whatever veteran big will take the min for depth, mentoring, and insurance purposes. Makes 6 and paying Hill nearly $10m. Damn the cap jump, that's idiotic.

With a guard draft and big in FA, that doesn't really change things either. Then you're paying a marquee big around $15m to start and Randle will start. Under that scenario Hill might be the first big off the bench, but that's not worth $9m to me. Especially when other moves they've made this summer were to find rotation and backup players for dirt cheap. Going the complete opposite end of the spectrum for Hill of all people doesn't add up.

Exactly there's actually NO room for a 9 million dollar player like him. I like Jordan, but his development of a jumper has actually made me like him less. As of right now we could have Davis for cheaper, Black is as cheap as possible, Randle is coming back and needs minutes, and Kelly is proving capable already. We have room for ONE more big maybe and that guy better be a piece that can put us over the top. Jordan is not that piece.

This sounds like a trade chip to me.

He's probably a fall back option. What is the due date for picking up his option in relation to free agency signings? I bet if we can't sign anyone and don't get one of the bigs in the draft he will be back. Why not? He'd become a big expiring with some value on the open market come February. If we don't get Ed Davis to resign, can't get Monroe, and don't get our pick, I mean, we'll only have Randle, Black, Kelly and Sacre on the roster.

The decision on Hill's deal has to be made by June 29th, which is before free agency begins. My best guess is that this leak is the Lakers starting to put the idea in out there that teams won't have the option to get Hill in free agency this summer, so if they want him they will need to work out a trade.

That said, I don't see anyone biting. Expirings aren't as valuable as they used to be and Hill isn't worth losing $9 million in cap space. I could see the Lakers declining the option and working out a deal that gave him less money per year but more years guaranteed, especially if they can't work something out with Ed Davis.

Without know where they will be drafting though there is no way they can definitively say they are picking up Hill's option right now. It's likely just about leverage, or could even be a rumor that's being leaked by Hill's agent to make him seem more valuable.

The FO isn't going to piss away 9 million in cap space and not give themselves the chance to offer the max to someone.

It's most definitely a trade ploy.
