There will be instances where Clarkson will carry the team but with Williams sharing the floor with him and others contributing we likely won't see as much. Young man though has taken his defensive inadequacies from last season and has improved on it.

Clarkson and Lou Will should have an advantage VS suns backup guards. I'd love to see Clarkson have a coming out party.

He's perfect off the bench, brings energy and scoring, plays all out. Not perfect, struggled tonight, but he still makes big plays and big shots, we were lucky to get him at 45 in the draft and for the contact we did.

Some clutch shots , I would be lying if I say his constant over-penetration doesn't get on my nerves though .

Take your team and read the play , you are capable of it

It's also in comparison to what they experienced the last couple of years. Luke is probably a refreshing change for any player, but for a player coming out of bYRON's coaching????

I can't even imagine how good that feels....

Mistake of not letting him finish the first half, he was on a roll there and played a big role in getting us that double digit lead.

I'm totally ok with Luke making some questionable decisions. I think we need to expect some of that from a young coach, and inconsistent play and focus from young players.

Wanted to say that I'd noticed JC playing much improved defense.

He's sooooo much better on D than last year. It's great to see. He knew he had to work on it and he's improved dramatically. He could always score, but now he's becoming such a well rounded two way player. What did he have 5 steals last night?

Lowkey, JC is having a super start to this season and really dominating his bench opposition. It's a small sample size, but a lot of his numbers are up from last season in a lot of categories. Really good production from him and we are finally seeing him make good on all that offensive potential he has. Depending on what happens with Nick at the end of the season, JC is a good starter to plug straight in.

In 26 mins (down from 32 last season), JC is:

    Points: 14.8 (20.5 per 36 mins) vs 15.5 last year (17.5 per 36 mins)
    FG%: .497 vs .433 last year
    Rebounds: 2.7 (3.7 per 36) vs 4.0 last year (4.5 per 36)
    Assists: 2.0 (2.8 per 36) vs 2.4 last year (2.7 per 36)
    Steals: 1.7 (2.4 per 36) vs 1.1 last year (1.2 per 36)

Aside from rebounding, where he is slightly down (but improving over the past six games; 5, 0, 3, 3, 3, 4), per 36 mins JC is putting up: 20.5pts / 3.7rbds / 2.8ast / 2.4stl.

If we also take a look at his FG% a little closer, he is shooting 55.1% from 2P and almost 60% from within 10ft. I think the eye test of him attacking the basket and finishing well this season is spot on, as well as that new floater he has going which is a substantial weapon. He is attacking the basket on 42% of his shots, this is great news, hopefully he can leverage this into more kick out assist opportunities and free throws as the season wears on.

Where JC is really sucking at the moment is on catch and shoot opportunities... he is shooting 25% from those. With the majority of these being 3 pointers, where he is relatively wide open, in a catch and shoot opportunity - about 2 of these per game, and making only 25% is really dragging down his 3P% to 34%. I think if he can shoot a respectable number here, he can bump up his percentage noticeably. Hopefully he improves here as the season goes on from what we have seen from him in the offseason.

I've also been really impressed with JC on the defensive end. Aside from wanting to go at the other team's best player and taking pride on that end, he is holding the opposing bench player to 14% below their normal field goal percentage to 30% - some of the best defensive numbers in this category in the league. It's fair to point out these numbers are predominantly against bench players, but this is part of what is helping us get stops on that second unit, get out in transition and have one of the better net ratings in the league with that second unit. He has been absolutely huge for the bench.

Hopefully he can continue to improve, specifically on his catch and shoot opportunities, as a defensive player and rack up a bit more assists & rebounds. His athleticism is high, his work ethic is great and I don't think he has reached his peak yet. He could end up being a pretty decent 20 / 4 / 4 / 2.5 player in a starting unit.
