I was definitely in favor of bringing Lopez back on the cheap even though he drove me crazy last year. He's way better than Beas.
considering the amt of losing we've had over the years with some guys "looking good" but we still fell for that same trap with Beas, he put up #'s being highly utilized on a really bad team that was void of talent so he got more opportunity to stat pad, theres good reason why he wasn't highly sought after IMO with the season he had with the knicks. I'm not saying Beas is a bad person or I dont like him but clearly he was a by product of nyk failures rather than being a successful bench guy
I hold my breath every time McGee falls, heck I hold my breath every time he does anything because we're royally f***ed if he goes out with an injury.
and how. he's been our second most valuable player by a wide margin, imo. and i can't believe i'm saying that.
Brook Lopez is averaging less points and rebounds than last year in LA in slightly more minutes. 2.7 rebounds a game. 12.4 points 25.7 minutes 1.6 blocks .469 FG% .386 3P% Solid for him, but hardly dominant or out of his mind.
Would be WORLD's better than Michael freaking Beasly. Brook could at the very least bang with the biggest players in the NBA, and he did / does still I'm assuming. Plus has other more desperately needed competent skills than what Beas can give us. Just a little slower out there but no slug. I don't think he wanted to come off the bench though for that kind of money.
Still confounds me that a guy with his size and ability can average 2.7 rebounds a game in 25.7 minutes a game.
It’s embarrassing, but the trend of dropping rebounds correlated directly with him taking more 3 point shots. He’s simply no longer in position to get offensive defensive. I can’t come up with excuses for him on defensive rebounds. Inexcusable.
Actually Brook is great at boxing out which leads to team rebounds. He’s still not a great rebounder, but I would guess that him boxing out directly leads to 2-3 RPG. Again, not great, but he’s not as worthless as the numbers look.
JaVale is the MVP of this team. And I am not disrespecting Bron here at all, I love what he brings to the team and all... but without McGee, teams would drop 150 on us on a regular basis. Opposing guards and wings are literally afraid of him when they get into the paint. What a monster! And yes, pay the guy in the offseason. Other than AD, there is no better center for this team in the NBA. Ironically, the best backup to JaVale would be Dwight.
I would have never thought I would be saying this... but JaVale McGee is continuing the long tradition of great Laker centers.
A better analogy would be the hockey assist. You don't need an advanced metric, just have to watch to see the fundamental, little things that some guys do.
