Ceiling is probably Marc Gasol. Much more likely is Kanter. He has a high chance of sticking in the NBA. Most common comparisons: Kanter, Mozgov, Kaman, and Splitter.
His ceiling is pretty high. The problem is that his style of play is very old school. Traditional BIG, back to basket, low post player. If this was 20yrs ago he would go in the top 10 and be an all star in 5 yrs. He has offensive skills now that took Bynum years to learn from Kareem. DraftExpress noted that he shoots 85% from the line, could develope that stroke into a midrange shot.
I'd argue that his ceiling is Bynum at his peak. When he was arguably the best C in the league with a very polished offensive arsenal. Marc's a good comparison cause Ivic looks like a bigger Pau on offense. But the other guys you mentioned don't showcase the offensive tools that this kid has. Maybe Kaman...maybe.
Interesting. If he's as good as people say and as good as Bynum that's another center piece for the Lakers.
If he is anything close to Andrew Bynum in 2007 both he and the team will be very, very fortunate. We should try not to expect so much out of a 2nd Round pick who is just a teenager.
Who said I was talking to you? I was commenting off of what @TheGreatOneKobe said. If he's as good as even a hobbled Bynum, and I agree he's got some of that potential just given his sheer size, we'd be extremely fortunate. To bandy around those kinds of expectations though is pretty darn tough. He doesn't compare to those guys today. Today he's not as good as Timofey Mozgov. We should hope he's a great player, but expect far less.
Steal. He will be a decent back up big for us this year I think. We coulda done much worse at this spot.
Robert Upshaw. Just remember that name before getting too excited. Having said that, I'm not disappointed in this pick, at all. Call me optimistic.
With a 2nd round pick you hope for solid. You hope for a backup for a few years, maybe a career role player. Only occasionally do you get gems there. Anything beyond that is all a bonus to me. If Zubac becomes a really good backup for years, it's a steal, if he eventually becomes a starting center in this league, it's a home run.
...yes I did not see much lift but he's probably still growing into his body. Zubac appears to be that type of player who doesn't explode off the floor, knows it, so he works on his touch and footwork to compensate. The Croatian Anti-Howard if you will... What I like is that he's willing to keep working so he can show he belongs. Two years tops...
Lol seriously dude? Quit being so sensitive. I was just clarifying that I wasn't saying he's gonna be Bynum.
Yep... Zubac as young as he is has a bit more refinement in his game and really wants to get at it. Very eager... Upshaw wavers not to mention the personal demons he has to deal with.
I think that low verticality is what gets him the Marc Gasol comparisons. I get the Bynum comparisons because of his decent back-to-the-basket game, but Andrew could really sky when he had to. I'm not sure Zubac has that in him. From what I've seen/heard he doesn't have the head for the defensive end yet either so he'd be a much rawer Gasol. Still a really great project though.
Bynum reached his potential when he started working with Abdul-Jabbar plus he was a smart egg as well. Had a nasty edge to him too. There were persistent thoughts of him not really into the sport. All in all he was a good teammate until Mike Brown took over. Zubac on the other hand is enthusiastic so he is a willing pupil. Yes, I see the Kanter comparisons. Another project for Shaw to mold unless we have a big man coach on the staff... I hope to see the young man in the Summer League.
I disagree. He has way too many tools to be called raw. Raw is someone you have to teach a lot of basketball to. Ivic is regarded as the 2nd most NBA ready Center in this draft.
Two of his issues according to DE are Offensive Polish and Defensive Principles. Those are two things that would make a kid a "raw" player.
