Maaaan. I still don't get all the Sacre hate. He's not very good, but he was a good teammate and he gave us what he had. It's not like he was a jerk or played below his potential. He was the last pick in the draft and we got some use out of him! I like Bobby Sacre. I'm glad we've (likely) replaced him with a better player, but I like Bobby.
Joking aside, I agree he's a good teammate and his cheerleading I imagine helps with morale... I don't mind having him on the team if he's making the minimum and takes up the 15th spot on the roster.
I like Sacre the guy, but Sacre the player has no business on the court. It's not personal, I just want him gone so there is zero chance he's taking minutes from players that deserve it, like Tarik Black last season, or ever being a starter for us again. The very idea is laughable unless everyone we have 6'9 and over is injured. He reached his ceiling, time to see if we can find a better 15th man, hopefully that's Zubac.
NBA teams need guys like Sacre. He was the last dude drafted, has made only $3M (and LA gets reimbursed for much of that), and he was always good teammate and cheerleader. I just don't want to have to see him suit up. Since his dad (Boozer) left, he's a shell of himself (Shaqre).
Wait, Zubac should be getting PT and not at the end of the bench... am I being too optimistic about his readiness?
I'm tempering expectations. Based on who we sign at C in free agency, if we're able to re-sign Black or another competent backup, I see Zubac as 3rd string since he's a rookie, and getting a lot of time in the D-League. It's entirely possible he impresses like Nance Jr did though and earns playing time, but I usually go in expecting 2nd round picks to be 3rd string as rookies.
I definitely think he's a guy we'll see in the D-League at first. I think he can contribute, but NBA speed likely will take time for him to get used to.
I agree about replacing him being a good thing, but everyone is just crapping on the poor guy. I just wanted to put it out there that I appreciate the dude.
Mitch hesitated to say Zubac would play for sure because we're still waiting on a buy out from his club, but I'm really hopeful something gets done.
Awares. That's why I said we might. I'm hoping it happens. Want him to get that time with the other dudes, in actual game experience. Even if it's fun and gun summer league.
Agreed. I think SL is really important to him specifically. We saw last season how Julius and D'Angelo were taken aback by that talent level. I think it's important to see Ingram and Zubac tackle that and it's important that both of them tackle it with Russell and Nance Jr. who saw it just a year ago and can help with the transition.
sacre is a good teammate but the guy just does not belong in the NBA but the reason i want him gone so bad is because things started really going downhill the season he joined the team (12-13)
I think we should lay off Sacre a bit. Does he belong on the team? Not now. But honestly, our team was so bad the last couple seasons, a player slightly better than Sacre in the 3rd string center spot may have gotten us like 1 more win over the 164 games. Sacre gave it his all, did the most with what he was given, and was a good teammate.
Sacre was good for morale, was positive with his role, thankful for the opportunity and was a body in practices. As a player, he gave it his all as limited as he was. Sacre will find work somewhere be it at the end of the bench for some other team or overseas.
I'm just glad we got a first round talent in the second-round by all accounts; in a couple of years, if developed correctly, he'll either be productive for us or he can be used as centerpiece to a trade similar to Marc Gasol (drafted 48 by Lakers.) or Bynum (drafted in the lotter by Lakers).
After watching hours of highlights and lowlights, I'm very happy with Ivica. He's much more skilled version of Bynum at this age. He keeps the ball high during rebounds/put backs, finishes with both hands and shows great footwork. Big fan.
Haven't watched his tape. What is the kid's ceiling? Starting center? Potential All Star? Backup center? I'd at least hope for the latter. Everything I've read is it can be any of the three. Seems like a good pick.
If Sacre was active during our back to back championship years of 2009-2010, he'd be the perfect 3rd center behind Gasol and Bynum. But this current team is in such need to upgrade talent at the 5 that it doesn't make sense to keep him. As for our Big Z, I like him a lot. Very talented and extremely fundamentally sound. If he had more bounce off the floor, he'd easily be a top 10 pick. Our scouting department is pretty damn good.
