I think i found his sister. Google "Girmawit Gebrzihair". Apparently she's 16 and just a won a 5000m bronze medal at IAAF World U20 Championships. What a JOKE, LOL
Operation find out which NBA superstar that we are trying to recruit is related to Bonga. That’s the only explanation I can come up with as to why we signed him.
to bad that 2nd wasn't in position to draft Robinson, he actually looks good as a vertical lob threat C
Is he dinged up or they just not playing him in the 2nd half now that the competition is getting down to the wire in SL? Did he play in the 1st half (don't think I saw him) against Detroit? Yeah so far just looks real raw to me. Aside from advantages in the open court but nothing else jumping out at me yet. Now Svi, drafted after him .... OH HELL YEAH!!!
We've been awesome at drafting but we're going to wish we had drafted De'Anthony Melton instead who has had a great summer league so far.
At some point, playing time is an issue. Lakers have enough young players right now. They need to start ballin with who they have.
i thought same. in the draft chat, i kept saying: melton's still available... this is true. had we drafted melton, he takes up another roster spot. i would say it's ok because the bonga pick is playing with house money, but we did spend a future second (which will be as good or better than that one) to get him. so i guess i'll just continue to hope they see something i don't. at all.
right. but on the other hand, if you can cultivate young backups, then when you need to trade quality players for talent upgrades, you're not left with slava medvedenko types to fill the void.
The Lakers draft based on talent over fit. I'm guessing Bonga had a ridiculously great workout and that Melton didn't. I'd also guess that Magic himself pushed hard for Bonga after seeing a 6'9" point guard. I was also banging the Melton drum after a bunch of the other guys were taken. I was saying Melton at #25 actually, but I'll be patient with Bonga. We can afford to take him along really slowly. Right now he's got a really short leash so it's hard to even get a feel for what he can bring. He finished last night really strong though with a three, a steal and an assist, then a nice swing pass for another assist.
And as you've mentioned previously, the kid is raw and we need to be patient. How much growth do we expect over the course of a week? Let's at least wait and see if he looks improved in training camp before we write him off as a wasted pick.
If this pick is this FO's imitation of the Logo's Kobe pick, then Bonga needs to start hitting that drum soon, cause otherwise it's curtains... Kobe was a younger animal..but the same beast..
I did... Otherwise it's a weird trade. Bron supposedly in your back pocket...we trade cash and our future Bulls '19 2nd (projected to be high 30s) for a project at 39 this year. How does that help a team in the now with Bron? Maybe Bron can mentor him, but still its a stretch. I would hate to see us TB this guy...but seriously, just a bizarre trade...unless it's really their "Kobe"...granted it's a 39th overall vs a 13th overall...but still altogether a weird move, unless there's more to it that will be revealed later.
I don't know if true but someone from LG said he has the same agent as Kawhi...lol EDIT: Anthony Davis, not Kawhi
It's really not all that complicated man. They liked the kid and they wanted him there. The directive probably came down from Magic himself who was willing to part with a 2nd in a weaker draft to get a guy in this draft that he liked. I don't understand how/why that has to mean they think he's their "Kobe". How does giving up a future 2nd equate to trading Vlade Divac for a lottery pick? Not every move is about winning now for LeBron. If that were the case, we'd have already emptied the cupboards to bring in a second star. This is a move that the FO clearly had in mind for the future. He's a project and one that needs more work than we'd like, but one that the FO bet on. I'm not going to really doubt them thus far when they've crushed each draft for the four years or so.
Umm is anyone noticing how well they are crushing putting together their Summer League rosters as well (in addition to the new draftees)? They clearly have gifted eyes with a great IP protected intellectual process on how they choose who they want playing for the P&G.
