paul's team has had injuries, he's been great, and they're what, a half game back of houston? lebron's team is only worse because he missed 9 games during which they completely fell apart. his numbers are superior, too--unless, like the media, you think FTs are awesome! it's clear the media has decided to give it to harden already, but it's the wrong choice. not a surprise, as the media often gets it wrong.
I won't deny that Harden is doing a great job in Houston. Still, they're kind of where I think they should be. Rockets have the 12th best offense in the league whereas the Clippers, Cavaliers, and Warriors are the top 3. I realize Harden doesn't have the same amount of help, but I also think it's harder to lead an elite offense with good players than it is to have a slightly above average offense with average players (if that makes sense). Considering how some have Westbrook as the MVP, I think it's fair to have some talk about Anthony Davis. I don't have either as my MVP, but the two have the same record. They played almost the same number of games, and their numbers are both equally impressive.
yeah, westbrook and davis have been more outstanding than other candidates, imo. if the award was just "who was the most dominating force on the court this year", it would be between those two for me. if wins matter, i don't see how curry doesn't get it. had they not blown the entire league away and thus been able to coast for the past two months, they might have been challenging for 70 wins this year. again, this is why i don't get harden as a leading candidate. lebron and paul have both done similar things (better, i'd argue) and are getting no buzz.
No way I'm voting Lebron MVP at all. He coasted the 1st quarter of the season and didn't give two craps. Multiple times walking up and down the court, pouting, not playing D and not trying on O. Took two weeks off because he was "tired". Now is playing hard only because the team is up to his standards and liking.
Wait, when did the media say Harden was the clear choice? I've heard Curry all season and that's who I think should get it now.
The MVP will go to Harden IMO. Every time I hear one of the "experts" talking about the MVP race its about Harden with an honorable mention of Curry. What I find interesting is that if you switched Curry and Lebron while keeping Harden at the same clip the media and fans would call Lebron the clear cut "not even close" MVP. Now I still don't like Harden and still believe his success has a HUGE part to do with officiating BUT he has carried a team that would probably barely make the playoffs, if they made it at all, to a top record in the tougher Conference. So I get the calls for him being the MVP just don't think he should win it.
what does a top record mean if a) it's 12 games behind THE top record and b) it's a virtual tie with 5 other teams. again, chris paul isn't getting mvp buzz. his team is ahead of harden's and has had impactful injuries to key players (griffin, Crawford). morey got to the media, just like he has since the beginning (which is why point differential used to matter to press--when Houston was rated highly by it, and now it doesn't--when they're not). is it a big shocker that grantland has come out with two pro-harden pieces as the season winds down. one of which was hilarious, as simmons basically outlines, point by point, why harden shouldn't win it, then declares him the winner.
