Once again, this isn't Vogel's fault. He has coached several squads that delivered elite defenses. He didn't just forget how to coach. He was given a roster of league minimum players, and the players that aren't league minimum have been hurt (Nunn, THT, Lebron) or are Westbrook. You can't hope to build an elite defense around AD...and poop.

i think you're right on many counts here, though we often have to go to AD at 5 because the way teams scheme against us is to get our centers out in space on defense and ignore them on the other end. not everyone has the personnel to play us this way, but most of the teams we see in the playoffs do.

but once again, i've always just wanted him to close halves there primarily. 12-15mpg at center. the rest of the time, have true big out there.

i'm actually not sure what dj did to get benched. he hasn't been great, but he wasn't actively hurting us in the starting five, imo.

would like to see what dj/ad/lebron/ellington/westbrook looks like, for instance.

i imagine vogel's not done experimenting by a long shot.

    it's 3 AM where I'm at. I think you're right lol.

So we can't score at the rim effectively, but we post up a lot. Nice.

Anybody body what his offensive teams rating was in Indiana?

    Won't count Orlando. They're a dumpster fire.

I like that idea too. I think the bigs should play more in general. I'm not knocking Anthony, he said that he was going to play more 5, and he's done it.. I think your idea of him closing the quarters is the best thing for the team. He doesn't have anything to prove to me on being tough and all that. I can't totally pan the idea, without seeing Lebron, Talen and Trevor and Russ out there with him. That lineup has some possibilities, I don't like it so much with Melo .

Agreed. I think the "AD at the 5" idea was being floated with the understanding that Lebron would be playing "Point-4." I disagree with Ariza. Ariza is done. Not like a well done steak, but like the pieces of burnt steak ash at the bottom of the grill. AD/Bron/THT/Westbrook are a given. The 5th guy is still a huge question mark. A guy like that bald white dude on the Bulls would be a nice player to fill in. Maybe we should try to sign him or something.

I'm.a Vogel guy but for the life of me why does he not have either THT or Westbrook in at all times.

I have to go back to the gameflows but I think the last 2 games a significantly number of the big runs came when both where in the bench. Guess it won't be a big deal once James comes back but still

And no one to counter Middletown who pulled the Bucks ahead. That was the decisive run when the were hoping Rondo/Monk would do it? Frustratingly obvious that wasn't going to work

for those saying personnel is not on Vogel, 1 question dont coaches usually give input to gm as to players they want n sign off on the players gm targets? if not then Vogel is just a yes man

came here to say this. we struggled to point points on the board for that whole time. i think even melo was on the bench for most of it. i remember watching like...how on earth is this group supposed to generate a good shot? and they didn't. monk made a couple tough ones, rondo make a spectacular one, and that was it.

isn't that the exact moment you brought russ in for? when lebron is out and AD takes his rest, and you're in a tie game on the road against the defending champion?

I think Vogel has some input but his vote doesn’t carry the same weight as Lebrons or AD. It’s much easier to find a new coach then a superstar. There are franchises like SA where Pop’s opinion is very important and they probably let him call the shots. The Lakers aren’t that franchise at least while Brons still here.

When it comes to this team I’m pretty sure Vogel’s say amongst LeBron, AD, and Rob holds the least weight.

Frank didn't get to pick his own staff, and he won a chip and we still dragged it out before giving him an extension. How much clout is he supposed to really have given the above?

Yeah, he was given a group of guys that either had the ability or tried at the defensive end. That fits the style he demands and is required of a Championship Team. He was handed a group this time that includes many that are too old to play effective defense or just flat out refuse to. I would expect a Coach who just won a Championship for your Franchise SHOULD have more clout than he does.

We thought the defense would drop off without Green, Bradley, Dwight and Javale. It didn't... we don't have KCP and Caruso....Kuz and Trez both couldn't guard a parked car IMO. We are 12th in defense without the roster being whole and playing together. I wouldn't put last night's game solely on defense either. I just don't see this glaring lack of defense, some of you guys do honestly. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes with the staff in the bubble, I just know we won. I think we can win now if healthy, if he is the defensive whiz he's reputed to be, it's a lot more to it than just having Caruso and KCP.
