I was going to say, Ham didn’t work out as well as hoped……WHY DO AFTER JJ!? Like, if they want to make him an assistant, GREAT. But NO to being the Laker’s coach. He can go coach someone else first and learn the ropes or he can be an assistant

Is now the time to see what Mark Jackson is doing or is that a no-no situation?

Handy, I think I’d be willing to give a First HC Chance to, just because he’s seen it all, but I might be a little hesitant about it too

There are several posters here that would do a better job than Ham, so no, in spite of our bad track record in hiring coaches, I think most options would be an improvement.

I can’t believe I went onto Twitter today to basically the entirety of the NBA media defending Ham, I mean WTF.. Not calling a single timeout in game 5 when we were up like 9-11 points and they went on a run and we were down like 3-5 points ALONE is a fireable offense. Good riddance to this awful coach, hopefully the next one is better. Personally I hope it’s Lue, he’s not perfect, but no coach is, and he should have been hired in the first place.

He might get another gig at some point on a Charlotte or Wizards caliber team but I think he has to go back down to the assistant ranks first and rethink his process and rebuild whatever he thought he knew about head coaching.

That Irwin piece summed it up well. I know Reaves and DLo struggled on defense early, but Ham panicked with his benchings, Prince and Reddish should never have been starting. His ridiculous lineups and being so stubborn with them cost us a shot at being a top 6 seed, though I guess in the end that doesn’t matter much as his X’s and O’s and timeout management, playing lineups that had never or barely played together, forcing Gabe Vincent out there when he was clearly not up to game speed yet, all would have cost us in the end anyway.

It just hit me why so many on twitter are defending Ham though, they want us to stay bad, they’re afraid we’ll get a good coach now and be a threat again, I always forget the league/other teams’ media fears us to that degree because we’re never down for that long.

I thought about making one, but then decided he wasn’t worth it.

I’m not sure experienced head coach is the way to go if there aren’t any objectively good ones available. You don’t hire experienced just because they’re experienced. For all the Clippers problems I don’t think HC is one of them, so I’m good with taking a run at Lue, but past that I’m not sure.

Maybe Adrian Griffin as well. I’m not sure why he was fired from the Bucks, but what I heard it sounded like he got a raw deal.

I know Rondo’s mind for the game is second to none, so I’d be willing to consider him even without HC experience. Although admittedly I’m not sure Rondo has the people skills to be a HC.

I mean, there’s still a possibility to bring Handy back somehow. But I see how that sucks. I feel like they’ll want to go CLEAN with this hire.

I don’t like this at all.

The one thing we could point to that a Lakers coach did well was Handy’s player development record. You see videos of Handy working on a certain skill with Austin or Rui, and you see that very skill improved in game.

    This is sad news

I think the way Doc Rivers was “consulting” the Bucks while Griffin was the HC was weird, but I don’t think he gets fired that early unless he had serious issues. If I recall, Terry Stotts quit as their lead assistant early in the season after butting heads with Griffin. I definitely would NOT want to gamble on him

Agreed on your other points. While I want experience, don’t want to settle for someone mediocre just because they have experience

Damn. That sucks. Maybe the next HC will bring him back.

Fine losing the rest of them, especially Jent. He and Ham were the two who thought starting TP was the way to go according to Irwin.

Budenholzer may be the only coach available with a championship under his belt as a head coach.
