I think you may have answered your own question lol, we’ve been getting clowned for letting Ty Lue go over that extra year. Also been getting clowned for generally being cheap.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we offered the fourth year in large part due to wanting to manage those optics.

Like I even just posted about Woj’s wording implying that Ham will chose his own staff… but now I’m realizing even that may be more related to optics. Maybe the FO still has a big say in the staff but want it to appear like Ham is calling the shots just so they don’t get dragged in the media

Not even Mr Boston has anything negative about this one

    Wanna comeback Boogie?

Obviously have no idea how it will work out, but of the names we interviewed I feel like he was the best option. Interested to see the staff he builds out.

Lue was seen as nothing more than "lebron's guy" then and they didn't want to commit to him after lebron's time in LA was done. Huge mistake looking back considering the job Lue has done with the clips but unfortunately no one can tell the future

Excited to see what Ham can do with this roster. He is coming from a contending vet team and so should have some idea of what it’ll take to get us there. Hopefully he can convince Brook to pop on over!

I hope they keep Phil on board as well, he has been really great for us and the work he does developing the young guys is invaluable.

Stand up to Lebron and hold him accountable to play consistent defense.

reignite a fire under ADs butt.

Bench Russ while respectfully giving him a reality check to be 6moy.

I really like the Ham hire. I think we found ourselves a good one. Props to Rob and the FO on this. They didn’t screw it up! Now let’s improve that roster.

IIRC Lue actually wanted a 5 year 35 million $ deal like he had with the Cavs. That’s the exact contract he got from the Clippers in fact. I think that was too rich for the Lakers blood and I don’t blame them.

Top assistant on a championship team. That’s how it’s done. Great job by the FO. Now, keep Handy, assemble the rest of your staff and let’s go!

Learned from mistakes. It's a good thing.

Great news! We have a coach even before the Finals start, that's promising. From all the names, he was indeed the most intriguing, though I don't know much about him. Also happy that we got our first choice and commit to a long-term contract.
Let's hope he's not swallowed by LeBron and Rambii

Not comparable, neither is Mike Brown. Ham might not work out, but it won’t be because he’s similar to those guys. Brown is a clown, a bumbling buffoon, he doesn’t command respect, word is Ham does. Luke was an assistant coach for like 3 years and then he got the job because he filled in for Kerr and the Warriors roster made him look good. Ham has been an assistant for 10 years, he’s paid his dues. Luke was 36 years old when he got the Lakers job, younger than LeBron is now. Ham is 48 years old, he’s way more ready for this.

    what jsm said.

still think this was only a mistake in terms of process, not outcome. lue is basically vogel in terms of quality. i'm not that impressed with his work with the clippers. he had a better roster after his two stars than we did.

Another note from Ham's interview in Oram's latest article with The Athletic

X&Os, D, strong communicator.... I hope we give him a chance to succeed by building a better roster and moving on from 200 lb elephant in the room.
