I’m guessing he’s doing this to counter Paul and Curry starting?

i'd play chris paul with a bigger guy every time at this point in his career. steph, too, tbh.

ham just loves his small back courts.

Start Max on cp and cp is going to have a rough day. I hope he got that line up out of his system.

Guys, it's preseason. He's experimenting with the lineups.

OK, he'll do the same during the regular season, but.... it's preseason. ;)

a lot of uptight reactions to lineups. I agree it's preseason, coach is still figuring things out. DLO has his job to lose. If he loses it and gets upset, too bad, but I think at this point, he has earned it. Nobody else has shown better PG abilities up to this point. And this constant push to start all our youngsters, just ain't going to match most coaching philosophies. All that said, AR should get some play at PG and if he kills it, it gives us options. If Max keeps showing up and playing to his potential at the same time it could lead to a shakeup. Both of them are going to need to prove it on the court. If they do, there is room to move DLO and look for a big trade that will strengthen our weaknesses. We will see, time is going to show this.

i think it's ok to be concerned that ham went with the smallest possible option in the lineup replacement. it's a pattern at this point, and one could argue it got us started on the wrong foot of the playoff series we lost.

^^^ Yes. I think the point is that with AR out Max would have been the better start at the 2 where he’s slotted in the depth chart than going smaller again with Gabe at the 2 rather than off the bench at the 1. Shades of last year with Reaves sitting for Beverley. But of course Darvin wanted to see the other combo.

Ham likes the small line ups for whatever reason so I do think it’s safe to assume we will see them throughout the year.

on the positive side, we have more height and better shooting which will hopefully help.

we also should see the execution improve as the new guys get acclimated.

Agreed. The uptightness is being concerned that others are concerned...lol. I prefer he experiment with bigger line ups. He did plenty of experimenting with smaller ones last season.

I was fine with Max not starting and didn't think anything of it. Ham is big on player's role and routine and if a player's locked in to a role he tries to keep it status quo for them. We know Max is the backup SG this year, making him as comfortable as possible in that position is priority #1 for Max.

This was what Ham said in camp regarding the 5th starter and it's just as pertinent to this convo

I'm actually all in favor of a set starting line up and defined back up roles as long as they are well thought out. Go along way toward us winning. I would prefer it not be the shortest most awkward line up we can make...lol. I have no concerns about Max either. Same as Austin did, he is going to claim his position as the season goes on.

Sigh... Ham wants Davis taking more threes instead of being a low block scorer and defender, eh? LOL! @ZenMaster must be rolling in his grave about this.
