Gordon Hayward Breaks Ankle Minutes Into Season Opener

    I had just turned on the game to see that happen. I feel bad for the guy. I’m no anatomy major but I’ll be shocked if he’s back by next season. If this was a leg ala PG or Randle, I’d say sure. But we’re talking the ankle. Grant Hill comes to mind when talking about recovering from ankle injuries. Who knows what tendons and ligaments will need repair and strengthening. But at least Hayward’s young so he’ll have time to return somewhat to form.

    I broke my tibia in half in high school. You can recover with no restrictions. That ankle though. How dislocated was it? Was the foot turned around from the break or the ankle dislocation?

    Hope that's true.. He can have a pretty full recovery if it's truly clean.. Still gonna be a long road though..

    Hayward is a classy player and thats a terrible injury. I feel really bad for him even though its the C Bags so there is a little shadenfreude when they get a dagger in their heart.

    My wife says that's virtually impossible. Given the location of the break and how many ligaments there are in the ankle area, he almost assuredly has ligament damage.

    Do we know the location of the break? If he just dislocated it and stretched the ligaments out and the tibia fracture was further up due to the weird torque, it's possible he's got just a "sprained" ankle after it gets popped back in. I've known people who have dislocated joints and didn't tear anything. I mean, there is damage to the ligaments, but hopefully nothing ruptured. If that tibia break is down close to the ankle, that's a little longer recovery as their isn't as much blood flow. down there. I remember when I broke mine they told me I was "fortunate" it was in the middle of the bone. Out of the two bone breaks I had, the breaking in half of the large weight bearing tibia was waaay easier to deal with then the tiny crack in my foot that happened to be in the perfect place (Jones fracture).

    Just a question. Asking for a friend.

    How do you think LLLLLebron James would have handled the injury differently?

    I've seen him roll all over the ground after getting bumped. I thought Gordon Hayward toughed that injury out pretty good.

    Yes but what the quote said was there was no damage to the ligaments. If they've been stretched and twisted, that means they're still damaged. They may not be torn but they would have a hard time even knowing that last night. It wouldn't show up on an xray and with that serious of a fracture it'd be near impossible to identify all the ligaments to know what's torn and what's whole.

    They would have built a tent around him within 60 seconds of the injury so no one could see him. Priests would come in to the tent to read him his last rites. Then men playing bagpipes would march in playing Amazing Grace.
