Wow Lee Jenkins is a great, great, great writer. More excellent reading on what Luke Walton is bringing to the Lakers.
http://www.silverscreenandroll.com/...lakers-luke-walton-head-coach-dangelo-russell Luke believes D'Angelo and Julius can be All Stars down the road. Good to see our new coach believing in the youth. He wouldn't have taken this job if he didn't.
Yup, looking back at it, that "meaningless" game in March where we beat Golden State might go down as a crucial day in Lakers history. It was one of the rare days in the past few years where that Laker "magic" was in the Staples Center. Probably reminded Luke what that felt like and showed him that this young group can play.
http://ocregister.com/articles/walton-714251-pastner-coach.html Another good read on the beginnings of Luke's coaching career. We just may be able to re-sign Tarik Black now...
I love that Luke does this. If I'm the players I'm sure Luke does this all the time but it shows me a lot about him as a person and leader. He's willing to do the ball boy type of work (boring part some might argue) of passing the ball to players so they can shoot and work on their game. From the players perspective they have to think this guy could think he's above doing something as simple as passing me the ball. Relating to the players Luke will do wonders for us.
pretty sure he's the youngest coach in the 4 major north american pro sports leagues i read somewhere he's the first head coach in the 4 major leagues born in the 1980s
^^ Love the quotes from Draymond. This is why I wouldn't be as worried about getting Boogie in a trade. I think Luke is the right personality to work with someone like Cousins who has otherworldly talent but needs some guidance emotionally to harness his abilities and reign in his anger issues. Luke's a listener not a top down guy like Byron or George Karl who are used to players bending to what they want.
That's THE sign of a great coach. You don't force the players to adapt. You adapt the system to fit your players strengths. Now, if he wants to run some Triangle, you can draft, sign and develop players to run it, but right now, you figure out their strengths and go from there. BTW: Love the quotes, videos and articles you're posting Randle. Much appreciated.
