This is true, but its like I feel about so many other things that have happened with the organization over the years. When one guy fails, I look at him. When everyone keeps failing, I look at the organization and how it functions. It's a systemic issue and until those things get resolved we're gonna keep whiffing on coaches, blowing lottery talent, and missing out on free agents. The way the coaching fraternity has come out swinging for Luke says a lot in my opinion. We'd be shooting ourselves in the foot even more if we don't give him a fair shake. A coaching change right now just isn't the answer IMO.
I'm talking about the Lakers and our specific problem. This has nothing to do with everyone else because every team has its own problems. Our problem is we have no closer because our potential closers are too young. That's not Luke's fault.
No they needed a closer to not lose in double OT to Houston without Lonzo Ball. To not lose to Golden State on a game winner by Durant (or in two other very close games). To lose by less than 10 points to the Cavs on the road when they lead that game for about 2/5 of the time, only losing their lead towards the end of the 2nd quarter when a bunch of young kids couldn't withstand a run by a veteran team. To not lose by a total of 6 points in two games to the Blazers. In fact a closer probably helps turn the tide in at least a couple of the 14 games out of 39 total that the Lakers lost by less than 10 points. But cherrypicking the latest games, when the team was at their lowest point after suffering multiple injuries and arrests, it fits your argument better.
yes and the excuses are pilling up as fast as the loses but you guys are right keep course n hope mgmt builds a loaded team like gsw then will finally get our "good coach"...n why wouldnt i "cherry pick" more recent gms, isnt the goal to progress and get better as season rolls along? so far all these close loses have progressed into the worse offense in the league with a defense that continues to get worse month by month
^^^In any Points allowed debate, you can't ignore the pace of the game. The Lakers currently lead the league in PACE and have been for most of this season. 17-18 point differential - ranked 25th 16-17 point differential - ranked dead last #progressindeed
lead the league in pace but 10th overall in scoring and lower half in fg%....if you're fastest pace team you should theoretically be top 5 in scoring
^^^3rd youngest team in the league won't get as many whistles as they deserve. (Of course a star changes that #2018plan). With the whistles they do end up getting, they become bricklayers. That's hardly on Luke...The onus should fall on the players. Add those points from missed opportunities from the charity stripe and we're in the top 5 in scoring.
You seem to work under the assumption that young kids barely losing several games isn't going to affect their psyche.
we have lopez/kcp here, theyre not all young....its amazing how things get brushed off, we talking bout a team that lost by 36 on national tv, talk a big gm afterwards and show up (or dont in this case) the very next gm n do the exact same things wrong
KCP is in and out of jail. Lopez has been awful this season (and hurt), even in our losses. Those are supposed to be our rocks?
i stated my opinion, im not advocating firing him this season but i dont think he done enough to "deserve" a 3rd yr....explore options, keep all opts open
Not sure poop matches Luke's skin tone, so I can't see disliking him ever as much as the arm folding grit master
