This. Other teams have no fear in the fourth because Luke just has the defense switch everything. LeBron got a match-up against Clarkson something like 3-4 times in a row and the Cavs ran it on purpose that way. Other teams have isolated Randle or run Russell off a back screen. It's easy to scheme for buckets against us in the fourth. Part of this is on the kids, but Luke is a big part of that. An unacceptable part of it.
I guess I will give him a pass , he's a rookie after all but I will have to see others things than " trying to replicate the Warriors" from Luke in his 2nd season . Sure the roster has its (major) flaws but as the TRD said , Luke has his share of responsability too
He just replicates what he knows....use to recall reading gw fans comments and they have same complaints bout their team last yr switching everything, to them that was just lazy defense
Switching everything is a lot more effective with Klay , Iggy, Barnes/KD , Green on the floor than with the players we have . Our players can't even guard their position so asking them to be versatile is a pipe dream
We switch so easily too. I'm okay with switching if you got caught on a screen and can't get back to your man but they even sometimes switch on plays where no screen was even set. We lack the uniformity in players that GSW has and the good individual defenders they have to use the same schemes they do. We need the personnel and a defensive assistant coach this off season.
Exactly. We switch for expedience and because our guys either cant or wont fight over screens consistently. Nwaba and Brewer have been consistently the toughest to move off their opponent with a screen. Almost everyone else on the roster gets stuck on a screen like a bug on a fly trap. It's awful.
I didnt mention gsw comparison as a good thing, luke is only doing what he scene/known, also our guys suck on defending screens so im not surprised they switch everything, none of our starting perimiter player fight through screesn, its like they just give up once they get picked off by a screen
I mean, Kobe didn't always go to the gym at midnight. Would Luke have faulted Kobe for doing some extra work? I don't get the negative spin here. Good/bad management? You just do your best at your job, and then you do some extra work to stay sharp, whatever. Maybe you ask for a bit of overtime. And your boss says, "I'm all for it, but let's see about making that a habit."
You and I are on the same wavelength right now. Yeah I agree with him too. Consistency, consistency, consistency. It's all about making sure to encourage the kids to develop good habits. I like the D'Angelo went to keep working and I'm sure he felt good after that game. Now do the same thing tomorrow night.
I still don't believe Luke is telling them to switch so often. He's stated publicly that he doesn't want them to switch all the time, and I be he's just explaining to switch when the play demands it. But most of the guys are so bad at defense/inexperienced that they get caught up on screens that they should be fighting through. Nwaba and Brewer do fight through the screens, but so does Nick.
It's coming... If they're evaluating Clarkson at the 1, you better believe they're going to wonder if they can get away without Randle at the 4 for sure.
