My excitement keeps going up. Pretty much what I expected of Luke. Bringing the GSW system here. Implementing it with some tweaks to fit our personnel as any good coach would do. That's what you do. Adjust to your players. Not forcing the triangle which doesn't fit at all. In short he's gonna teach and allow our young guys to flourish. Really excited especially for D'Angelo. I think he's gonna look terrific in a motion system. He's really learned how to play off the ball. He didn't have much of a choice this past season. His ability to shoot. Coming off screens. He is the most polished offensively imo of the three young guys. I'm sure Luke will have some designed post ups as well. Randle needs to improve his jump shot and screening because if so that 1/4 screen and roll can be deadly.
Wait we aren't going to run an offense where our top pick who has Magic Johnson like vision passes the ball and stands in the corner the rest of the time? What's going on here? Something isn't right here. It sounds like our coach has a brain!!!! I'm so confused.
It sounds to me like Luke is coming in with a lot less ego than B0ron at the very least. B0ron came in as a drill sergeant, the whole "I'm gonna show you kids what it means to be a Laker (of the 80's) and you're gonna do what I say, run my system exactly as I want, man up, eat some grit, get in my foxhole, or the wood will talk to your butt". Luke is already saying in a round-about way that he will bring a system that is more suited to the players we have. No trying to force a square peg into a round hole. I have no idea how this will translate to wins and losses in his first year or two here, but the guy seems to have "it", something special about him.
I would guess that the majority of people here expected to hear almost those exact numbers. He wasn't going to get 7 mil per as a rookie coach, and he wasn't going to leave GS for a 3 year deal, he needed job security. I honestly expected 4 or 5 years at 5 mil per. Here's hoping he becomes our long term coach, and gets an extension before this deal is up, I'm so tired of the instability and firings. We have no idea how good of a coach he is going to be, but these are just my hopes, he is only 36, and he can be here a long time if things go right.
Honestly, I think it's a bargain. I was expecting 6 per year for 5 years = 30 mill. 25 million is a pretty nice price. So that one horrible contract extension that Mitch dished out for Luke maybe paid off in the end! I like that. A bit overpaid as a player, but a good deal on the back end as Head Coach. I'll take it!! Man, I feel really good about this hire. So good. Love what he's saying about NOT forcing the triangle. Love that he has five years on his contract because I think that kind of stability and time to develop is exactly what we need right now.
I'm glad he came out and said he'll run what fits the personnell. 5 yrs 30mil is good too. Great great stuff. Lotto balls you're up next
Totally agree, just a couple quotes from him today brought that fresh air we all have been waiting for. We have new life in our fragile franchise again. Anything to get that STANK that Boron left behind.
Damn who would've thought that big 6 year contract Luke got back in 07 [tremendously overpaid] would come back and bless Mitch and the Lakers. Life 101 folks. You take good care of the people under you and watch how it rewards you in the future
I wonder if Luke can help us get Pau for a year or two and have him finish his career as a Laker. He can be tremendous help with player development But Pau probably wants to join a contender
