If anything, now that I think about it, I hope this does decrease Boozer's time on the floor. When Earl is engaged in the game, he is a much better defender than Boozer; as Trodgers said as a help defender, but more importantly, individually. Even if you decided to switch on the PNR, he could guard the 3 pretty well; if this means less Boozer, then I guess I'm all for it.
Mike Bresnahan ✔ @Mike_Bresnahan The Earl Clark signing likely means the end of Xavier Henry's Laker tenure. He's the guy to be cut to make room for Clark's guaranteed deal.
Mike Bresnahan @Mike_Bresnahan · 1m 1 minute ago Henry would still get the full $1.1 million due this season. He averaged 2.2 points this season after a more-impactful 10 ppg last season. We'll eat Henry's contract...
Clark over Henry? Eh, I'll take that, if only because it gives us a body that will be on the court over one that wasn't, ever. If it means less Boozer, great, I'd rather it meant Wes Johnson being cut though. Maybe, as far as PG goes, we aren't looking for one because Kobe just has the ball in his hands most of the time anyway. Traditional PG's are kind of pointless next to Kobe.
maybe we will be able to get him through the hardship exception...the lakers applied for it to the nba now its just a matter of whether they grant it or not...
Even if we used that to get him, we'd have to cut someone if it was a year-long deal. That exception only lasts until one of the four injured players comes back (Kelly, Nash, Randle, and Henry).
I just heard Earl on the radio a couple hours ago being talked to about him possibly coming back to the Lakers. And dude sounds like anything but a real quick, bright guy. I know you're talking on the floor and hope you are right. But listening to him I thought he was making Wes maybe a bit smarter seeming.
Clark was never a great speaker though. I meant he has better instincts on the court. Wes has almost no instincts on the court, but strikes me as a guy who is probably not stupid outside of basketball.
Yeah then Earl is smarter at the gooder side of what we need. That's what the heck he was saying I think...... . Hey speaking of beer and / or cheer, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!! I'd have stuck "A dagger to my stomach" by now this season if not for knowing you guys are all going through the same bleep with this as me. HELPS!! Highs are higher and the lows are not quite as bad.
What's the problem then with Randle, as he won't be back this year? Or did I miss something after seeing the pic of him on a seated bike machine? Nash I kind of get if we are doing the thing you usually suggest, in treating stars with class and respect. But even that, he's not coming back either. Seem to me that "logic" would say we should be able to hardship a couple more of these guys for like Mekel. Just have to make sure we don't lose rights to bring Randle back.
The NBA doesn't have an Injured Reserve spot so we can't drop Randle without waiving our rights to him and somebody would snatch him up immediately. Unfortunately there's also no free roster spot even if a player misses the whole season. Example: even though Steve Nash is out all year, he's still given a spot on our roster. We can't sign anybody else without waiving somebody already on our team. The only people we are likely to waive are bench players which means Ellington, Henry, Price, and maybe even Kelly are all on watch to be cut so we can add some depth.
That is some r******* thinking or rules making. Maybe I'm missing what they were afraid of having happen without it. Fake season ending injuries? Even if paying them?
Seems like it's decided. http://www.latimes.com/sports/laker...s-earl-clark-xavier-henry-20141126-story.html
Was never a fan of Earl Clark. He tried like crazy and definitely played his best ball of his career when he was with us last time. Problem is...... he was way too inconsistent and his shot would just evaporate for long stretches of games during the season. In my eyes he's exactly like wesley johnson except without pogo stick jumping ability.
Earl speaks slowly and he's pretty laid back/reserved. But he's no dummy. I like him a lot and I think he's actually a pretty smart dude with a good sense of humor from his radio interviews when he was here a couple years ago. And like realdeal said, he's definitely worlds smarter than Wes on the court in terms of defense. He's got a pretty darned good knack for it actually. My problem with him is his size makes him much more adept at the PF than the SF position. And we have enough of those right now. I guess we'll probably play him at SF which may not be a bad thing. But it doesn't seem like his natural fit. I would have preferred a true wing player signing or a PG.
