    https://www.si.com/nba/2017/09/19/dwight-howard-hornets-magic-lakers-james-harden-kobe-bryant

"In 2008, Dwight Howard had more endorsement deals than LeBron James. He appeared in seven nationally televised commercials. He disproved the long-held notion that big men beyond Shaq can’t move product. A year later he racked up 3.1 million All-Star votes, still the most ever. In piggybacking the Magic to the ’09 Finals, Howard led the NBA in blocks and rebounds and was fourth in field goal percentage. He was the best defensive player in the league and one of the most efficient scorers. When general managers responded to a 2009 NBA.com poll about which player they would sign to start a franchise, they picked James first, Howard second."

"Today, Superman is 31, on the back end of what was supposed to be his prime. Never married, he has five children by five women. He has lost millions of dollars to friends and family. He has at times been estranged from his parents and spurned by his costars. His endorsement portfolio, once brimming with Gatorade and Vitamin Water, McDonald’s and Adidas, Kia and T-Mobile, is down to a sneaker deal with the Chinese sportswear company Peak. He checked in last winter with 151,000 All-Star votes—11,000 fewer than Ersan Ilyasova. Next week Howard will go to training camp with the Hornets, his fifth team in seven seasons, who acquired him over the summer for backups Miles Plumlee and Marco Belinelli."

Howard is a fake. He recently said he made mistakes with Kobe and Harden. I don't believe him. He's just saying that stuff to try and show he's a humble superstar.

Having said that, I can't wait until he's inducted into the hall of fame and we have that argument. You'll regret coming down so hard on McGrady.

that was a pretty good read, actually.

i'm still not sure he can really change his spots, but he does provide some insight into why he's who he is. it's a little sad to hear that was basically ostracized from the get go. but the appropriate response isn't throwing people under the bus left and right for the rest of your career. maybe he's finally done with that?

again, though, still not hearing that he's ready to accept the appropriate role on the court, despite obvious off-court improvements.

...read the article and kind of felt sad for him as how far he's fallen. Howard sounds like he never figured out who he is as a person or what he is as a player.

He had a great coach SVG in Orlsndo that hid his weaknesses, and instead of being able to see that, he dreamed of more glory and more women. Thought he could be a prime time scorer.

Then he came to LA and found out what it took to be great. Then the excuses started.

Well written as always by Lee Jenkins, but all I really read was a lot more excuses in a flowery pattern.

I hope the man finds peace, truly I do, but basketball doesn't seem like his best calling. Maybe it never was.

when everyone was saying he should leave la to play in houston because he'd be getting away from kobe to play with an unselfish superstar, i lol'd. harden's a poor man's kobe. then he told dwight the same thing kobe did, just with no rings on his fingers. pain.

I really enjoyed the read as well. Not a better man than Lee Jenkins to write that kind of article.
