Looks like we were on the same boat when we got him, T. Looks like we still are. He’s not a Laker.

just like with kcp. he turned down 5/80 in det during extension season. ended up signing a one-year for 18 with us. then another at 12, then one at 8 (i think), then his 3/40. so he ended up getting 6/80 instead of 5.

schroder could end up doing something similar. face saved.

The main difference between the two guys as far as long term contract negotiations could be attitude. You never heard a peep from KCP about playing time, starting/not starting etc. Dennis seems to have a higher sense of his worth on the open market and that’s before you add in the issue of him starting vs coming of the bench. Teams cater to great talent all the time but Dennis doesn’t fall into that category. He needs to be careful or he will fall into the Dwight diva category. If he ends up doing 1 year big money “prove it” kind of contracts, I can see a team tiring of attitude quickly.

yeah, his rep is and will be his problem, imo. unless someone gets desperate, he's looking at a big one-year deal or a long-term deal at substantially lower than he was hoping for.

guessing he's watching dallas pretty closely. they'll clear a max slot to swing and miss on leonard, then need to dump that cash somewhere.

KCP ended up sorta making up for it. I think his total contracts as of now total to almost 77 million. He needed an extra year to get to that but he won a title and ends up being a part of a legendary team and organization.

If you came to me and said I'll give you 6 years, 77 million and have a chance at a title or two and play with the Lakers with Lebron and AD or take 5 for 80 in Detroit, ya, that's an easy call.

No, he did want to play for the national team. He was already at training camp expecting to play and he is with the team at the Olympia qualifying tournament even though he is not playing.
But his agent put those numbers out there and the german team just cant afford that kind of money.
Dirks insurance for the national team was rumored to be about 200k and Schröder, although a free agent, wants 100 mil...
I would definitely go with he has lost his damn mind.

This is on point about Dennis. He really needs to change his attitude or he will find himself doing one year prove it contracts. He is too young to be developing a "DWIGHT" attitude.

Please do not resign DS. Let him go destroy another team's chemistry. He is a perfect clipper.

I don’t think DS has been good for the team at all, also his attitude is different to KCP’s imo, would of liked to have gotten something for him in a trade.

I don't like his attitude either and his contract demands are ummmm quite interesting but it's a shame we never really saw him with a healthy team.

Even without AD I thought the Lebron pre-ankle injury Lakers really found something with a guard/wing rotation of DS/THT/KCP/Lebron/AC. The Lakers were really fun during that stretch before the ATL game as they were able to attack the rim, get out in transition quickly and go all out on defense as well. Then Lebron got hurt and then he got Covid and then AD got hurt.

I wouldn't mind a one year extension as long as the Lakers can find a player to that can shoot the 3 and defend (ala the Kuzma and Morris role which fell apart last year). I think the Lakers can live with decent but inconsistent shooting from their guards as long as they can get another forward who can shoot.

Lakers do not have a choice. They have to sign DS. They need that asset. If DS doesn't get more than 21 per from another team, he will come back and sign the 4 year 84 mil deal.

Lakers fans do not like him but for some weird reason, the Lakers players do, so that's enough for me.

I'm not sure having Schroder with 21M a year and 4 year contract will be much a trade asset. That relies on teams trading a big asset (that receives similar money) for him which is odd to me. If someone wanted him, they would grab him now

I will only offer him a 1 or 2y deal, overpaid if he wants. He would still be a trade asset and could get humble after being a FA with no team interested. Would also tell him to understand his role and produce even if he comes off the bench

I don’t really want Dennis back but agree with @OX1947 that we need to resign him to keep his as an “asset”. I’m leaning towards a 1 or 2 year contract even if we have to overpay, just like you pika. If we sign him for 4 years with his attitude, I’m afraid he will be an issue in the locker room. His talent level certainly isn’t worth putting up with that. Maybe a bigger name player will shake lose before the trade deadline and we could use Dennis in the trade.

think of it this way: if he doesn't get the 4/84 offer elsewhere, he's definitely not a trade asset at that number, right?

1 year, 25 million, team option on second.

If we re-sign him it means we have to let go off AC/THT. I would rather fully invest in those young and budding guys than Schroder
