came here to a) post that list and b) highlight graham. he's RFA but the hornets have one prized rookie and one-priced and high performing player at the same position. do they want a full 4 year MLE salary spent on their third pg when they have holes to fill? tj mcconnell is another name of interest to me. it would be like getting a more pg-ish caruso in many ways (less athletic, better with the ball in his hands, equally tough/smart). we've been rumored on derrick rose repeatedly, too. i also think a double sign and trade with dallas in which we bring in tim hardaway jr for schroder could help both teams, in theory. we've got more options than schroder's agent thinks.
No to Lonzo as well. I don't think he can handle the big lights of LA. Schroder can redeem himself by playing well in the playoffs off the bench thats the only way. He thought he was a third star lol maybe for a small town team
Not fair to Lonzo. He had insane expectations that was unwarranted and wasn't given time to develop because Luke was a horrible coach. It seems to me LaMelo's attention has raised Lonzo's game. He's shooting 40% from three on 8 attempts per game and he is a better rebounder, passer, and just as good of a defender as Schroder. His only weak part of his game is his inability to get to the basket and draw fouls but he's got a legitimate three point shot now... Playing with Bron and AD will help his game develop further.
statistically, lonzo's defense has slipped as much as his offense has improved. i wonder what that's about. but i worry that rock is correct, here, too: lonzo seems kinda weak, mentally. had all the hallmarks here. there's no pressure in NO. i think ingram's sudden shooting touch might be attributed to that, too, tbh. if you can't do it here, you're not as valuable to us.
It's slipped because no one on the Pelicans plays defense outside of Hart, Adams, and Lonzo. Ingram+Zion are like turnstiles defensively. The pressure would eat most young players so it doesn't say much. They were brought in and had super high expectations and Luke Walton is a horrible developmental coach. Players develop and grow from learning experiences. It's not like Schroder is exactly living up to be the player we expected and he's four years older than Lonzo.
not sure what schroder has to do with it or how that would prove that we should try lonzo again. he was rattled here the whole time. if anything, schroder joining the list of people who forgot how to shoot when they arrived here is MORE reason not to bring lonzo back. in fact, let's look for guys who are terrible shooters, so that we at least won't expect anything! feel like we've had more luck in that direction (guys not known for shooting doing better here) anyway.
Schroder has to do with it because my comment was made saying I would rather have Lonzo than Schroder and The Rock disagreed.
That's a nice thought. But at 170, I don't think anyone is afraid of Schroder. I don't think there's much difference between Trezz's arm size and Dennis' pants size. In that getup it looks like he's ready to go look for Anunoby now.
I know he was great with his defensive energy and racked up the assists. But offensively, I can't help but think of this with regards to what he's asking for financially....
I hope we dodged a 20+mil bullet. If Rob comes up with even crazier number this summer, i'll be pissed.
At this point - Schroder has made his own bed. He's been pretty atrocious for us with LeBron/AD out...he woulda made a strong case for $25m per year if he balled out and we were say 6-3 without AD/LeBron. Who knows, maybe he has the game of his life against the Nets and shuts down Kyrie and we eek out a BIG win on the road? He needs a signature game and he hasn't had one yet during this non-AD/Bron stretch. Schroder isn't a 3rd star, but he wants to be paid like one. That's the real issue here....and I'm not sure it gets resolved. If i"m Lakers though, I'm going with a shorter deal, 2yr/44M, or a longer deal at 4yr/72M...I'm not paying him $25M no matter what. If he balks at that, let him walk to the Knicks and let him never win a ring ever again. We can re-up Caruso/THT for the $20M combined. Case closed.
The one thing I wonder, did we know Schroder was basically asking for 25 per before the trade deadline ended? If so, we should have moved him at all costs since getting a player of his caliber will be impossible with us against the cap. It will be similar to the KCP situation where we have to overpay or risk filling his void with a league minimum player.
He's an average NBA starter quality PG. PG has lots of talent so it's hard to overpay for this position - frankly I think his current contract at about 17 million a year is actually a fair salary for him. It will be an interesting discussion with him and the Lakers this offseason -as noted, glut of PG talent in the league -league revenues likely lower due to pandemic -Lakers admittedly sucked without him even with Lebron around -He hasn't looked like an All star though without Lebron -Lakers have limited ability to add league average starters and league average starters on the Lakers look really good because Lebron/AD make it easy on them (less defensive attention, easy looks, players get to do what they're good at, etc.)
i agree with most except for the opening line: which teams bench their current starter in favor of schroder? to be average, you'd have to make a case for around 15 of them. i only think i could make a case for maybe 5. he's a sixth man, really. it would hurt if he walked, but not as much as us having to do cap gymnastics because we overpaid him. as you said, we can make league average players look good, and league average players will want to play here, perhaps at discounted rates (like marc did last offseason). the pg version of marc gasol is worth more than schroder on a 4/84, imo.
With his TOs, so-so playmaking, and average 3 pt shooting I'd probably classify him in bottom third of offensive PG's but he's a solid defender and he's in the top 1/2 there. It's weird as there is so much talent among PG's in the league even as a bottom third on offense he's an elite at somethings such as getting to the rim. Dennis's agent would point out on the Lakers that Dennis skillset actually fits well with what the lakers want and. He fits the mold of an scoring PG whose 3 pt shooting is better when he can be setup. As I've been saying he should model his game after Dragic and Dragic is not a starter but he just came off a playoff run where he destroyed 3 straight playoff teams. I'm ok with the Lakers moving on from him but if they do I suspect it will be THT takes a leap (he does everything that Dennis does on offense but has more potential) or they have someone like Graham lined up. That being said I think they have to be careful, a bit of an overplay is better then to let him walk without a solid replacement ready to (i.e. I think getting a Jeff Teague type as a replacement would be a disaster) Recency bias I'm worried is clouding our judgement on DS as the Lakers looked really bad when he was out. The Lakers are essentially beating teams they should and losing to teams that we expect them to lose with DS as the main guy and that's not surprising as if you want to win a title he shouldn't be one of your top 2
