Lakers need to be willing call his number when the shots aren't falling. Hes the one guy who can always create his shot so when Lebron doesn't have it, set him for an iso or PnR.
Looks much better under control and when he plays off AD/Bron. That and 1 on Theis to stretch the lead to 7 was nice, tonight was his night to close
I didn’t think he had a horrible game or anything. A few important buckets, solid defense in a chaotic scramble on that last possession. But I think my expectations have already lowered, and I just see him as a solid role player on the team. I don’t think we need him to be the third guy. So I don’t mind when there are stretches where he’s relatively invisible, as long as he is overall putting in enough positive contributions and occasionally produces at that #3 option level. Is a guy like that someone you need to lock up with a long term extension? That’s a completely different discussion. I’m not sure where I stand on that. I don’t think he’s demonstrated he’s worth close to the $20 million ball park. I really see his value as being close to KCP. He’ll command more then that though. At worst, he’d probably still be a trade chip so I think at the end of the day you have to find a way to reach a reasonable deal with him. But I have to wonder if we might possibly be able to find someone that matches his production at the MLE?
Schroder has impressed me defensively so he has some value there. Offensively its not lookin good January 2021, 15 games, 31 mpg, 12.2 points, 3.2 rebs, 3.8 assists, 2 TOs, 1.1 steals, 4.4/11.6 FG , 38% FG, 0.9/3.2 3 FG, 27% 3pt%. He gets the majority of his minutes playing next to Bron and AD, he should be better than this
Him and his teammates need to let him cook. He had Theis switched onto I think two times before finally he just took him off the dribble for a critical And1. I'm in the camp that he's playing well but needs to be more assertive. No excuses for not letting him get a shot by calling his number in the Detroit for example when nothing else was working
https://www.silverscreenandroll.com...start-time-tv-schedule-injury-reports-lineups Latest Silver Screen and Roll podcast. From about the 23 minute mark they talk about Schroder's extension where Lakers are eligible to give him 4 years $83 mil and a starting salary of $18 mi/year There's a possibility if the Lakers and Schroder don't see eye to eye on this they could trade him somewhere and get something out of it instead of letting him walk this summer for nothing (After giving up a 1st rounder). They could also just ride out Schroder in his contract year hoping hes motivated for a new contract/ring and extend THT/Caruso instead. Schroder would be a $15.5 mil/expiring. We own our 2022 first round pick and 2023 2nd round pick.
i just addressed some of this in the THT thread. i still think it's possible that the lakers and schroder come to an agreement that is below that 4/80 and above the 2/33 that was already offered and rejected. think about it: they were fine paying him the first two years of the contract he wants. maybe they just split the difference at adding a third year (at player's option, perhaps?) and call it a day. that makes it so that people trying to poach THT really just have that third year of the contracts where the lakers are really squeezed (two guards at 20 million per). and even then, it would be years in the future, which allows for other moves in the interim to cut costs and/or balance the roster. long-term, you probably only need one of THT and schroder, so it's unlikely both make it to that third year here anyway.
From the Lakers perspective trading him so they don't "lose" him doesn't make sense. -They are a team interested in winning now. I doubt unless you get a true elite wing stopper like Dort/Siakam type that you increase your chance of winning -He provides something that the team doesn't have right now outside of him, someone you can create in isos without any screens or actions called Hell the Lakers are in one of those weird situations where if they win and he walks in FA, it will still be positive for them, as that opens the door for their 20 yo freakish guard to get minutes after a season of grooming.
i think if he were to walk, we'd have to look at bringing in a cheaper version of him (guy who can penetrate, shoot, and defend pgs credibly). i don't think THT is that guy, exactly. he's better than that guy, probably, but it's still good to have one. especially after us not having one for years, tbh.
We'd be really dumb to let AC or THT get away for keeping Dennis. Much as I love Dennis and his speed and his game and surprisingly his Bradley like defense.
good job pestering young on defense--young got maybe one clean look at a three all night. he got a bunch of floaters, but i think that was the gameplan and i agree with it: if he scores 50 on runners over bigs, give him the game ball and go home. thought the lakers could have used schroder to make young work a bit more (they did in the fourth some). young just can't defend anybody, and you can't let him off the hook. so at least schroder got some of that for us. last year, we had nobody to do it.
D is tenacious, like AB. Dumb foul aside, lots to like. Needs to work on lob and drive-dish passes. But like him taking pressure off Bron.
It’s crazy how fast he moves around on the floor with and without the ball. Zip zip zip. You think the guy he’s defending is about to blow by him and in an instant he’s back in front. Not all the time of course. Absorbs a lot of punishment fighting through screens and keeps coming. Tough! Playing his a** off for that Lakers contract he’s hoping for. Seems to not pass much to THT though, seems to me. Competing for same dollars and starting position at some point. The only thing he’ll have over him in another year is speed. But Talen gets around quick enough.
He seemed to take the matchup with Trae Young personally, especially after getting those questionable calls against him. I liked seeing that from him.
