I'm surprised to be honest. I have lots of German friends, clients and even family members. I heared many of them talk English on more than one occacion but have never encountered this strange accent before. What you usually get (from my experience at least) is the pronounciation of "th" like a "z", which is also pretty specific. Anyway, very glad to have him on board. I seriously don't remember any NBA team this deep. I hope they mesh well together and steamroll the league this season.
That was totally my Mom. A voiced th, like in 'this' she'd say zis. And unvoiced like in 'think' was somewhere between t and th. Interesting WW2 story: the Krauts had great spies embedded in our military who could speak North American English flawlessly. They first would ask them questions like what league do the Cubs play in. But not all Americans follow baseball. My 18 yr old son couldn't answer that, so that obviously didn't work. So the US gets some linguistics geeks to come up with ways to detect them. They came up with suggestions, none if which seemed to work, until someone suggested 'wreath,' which is pure genius, cuz Krauts, as you see with our Herr Schröder, has problems saying word-initial 'r.' They also have a s*** time pronouncing a word-final voiceless 'th.' Thats what caught them. Just like my dear Mutti (RIP), they'd pronounce it 'reet,' as in "IE, vere shoot vee heng za reet zis yeah?"
Been a bit underwhelming Doesn't seem like a great fit with Lebron so far. Did have one nice off the ball cut off Gasol. Feel like the Lakers are wasting opportunities to get him acclimated with Harrell. Just seems like a better fit for him to come off the bench and have a guy who can help set him up on ball
I don't think he should start, its an awkward fit with Lebron and AD. I think they could figure it out but he would be quarterback with the second unit.
Yeah, I've been against Schroder starting since day one and nothing has changed my opinion. They definitely COULD make it work, it's not a bad problem to have. But it's not ideal. Schroder is just not so spectacular a PG that he should be taking the ball out of Lebron's hands. It's not rocket science here. Lebron led the league in assists last year (10.2!!) as Point forward. He knows the team and how to set them up. Surround him and AD and Gasol with great shooters/defenders such as KCP and Wes in the starting lineup and we are good to go. It's pretty simple. Gasol and Lebron are such superb passers and they are both capable of running the offense perfectly. Meanwhile Schroder may not like it but he's a perfect fit for the second unit. His speed is not being utilized with the starters as it's more of a half court set. Let him lead the bench and he'll be excellent. That doesn't mean he won't be playing any minutes with the starters as Vogel likes to change things up a bit depending on matchups in game. But still, I really don't like him as a starter at all.
Well he's saying all the right things in this interview: right attitude. That being said still don't like the fit with the starters: him and Harell together just seems to make more sense
Mason and Ireland mentioned how Schroeder is trying to figure out how to fit into what the team is doing. Obviously hes the new guy and there will be an adjustment process but he's a PG. Mason and Ireland not sure how he would work with Lebron on the court
just some solid phonetic spelling. felt like my former dean was in the room with me, discussing the lakers for some reason.
