I had to poke around to see if this guy just forgot how to shoot after coming to the Lakers. It turns out this guy is major fools gold as a shooter. He's had 3 post-seasons where he was out of this world deadly (2013=48.3%, 2014=47.5%, 2016=50%). No other year did he even reach 35%, with most years closer to 30%. If you take out his 3 scorching years, he's a career 32.6% shooter from 3 in the playoffs. What about recency bias of him being a huge contributor for Toronto? He was 32.8% in the playoffs last year. BTW, these aren't Curry 35 footers on the move or kobe F-it 3's with two defenders in his jersey. Danny is usually wide open. He's a terrible shooter that has gotten ungodly hot 3 postseasons. What were we thinking?
he plays good team d, is a good teammate, and teams seem to respect his shot even if he doesn't make them all that much, which matters. i think those were the thoughts. well, that and i'm sure they hoped he'd do some derek fisher stuff in the playoffs. that hasn't happened at all, though.
