Dlo best game of the year. Rui could watch him box out and hustle

much better strategy than "the bench will communicate my ideas".

dlo played pretty well last night and has been trending the right way.

those stats aren't meaningless, but the meaning can sometimes be that the coach runs good players with bad units to try and mitigate the disaster. i feel like AD's on/off numbers are hurt by the fact that his coaches are always throwing him out there with a bunch of bad defenders in the hopes he can help offset it. he does, but not enough to come out on top.

i will say it matches the eye test that we're not struggling as badly when lebron sits this year, though.

again, all this points to playing lebron fewer minutes. maybe his impact will go back up.

as for dlo, i've said many times that he does stuff for us that nobody else on the roster can do. it just sucks that he was so terrible to start the year (and is terrible for at least one playoff series a year).

Correction. Some stats are meaningless without context.

Short tweet about only worrying about what you can control. Cryptic. Vague. And naturally fans took it where you'd think and that's probably why it was deleted.

didn't see the tweet, but it's fair for fans to take it that way, imo.

curious to see what's happening in the game today...

lol, the problem is that no matter how well he plays, nobody wants him. i find it weird, tbh. every year, there are articles about "should team X trade a 1st for <insert inferior bench scorer/playmaker here>?"

seriously, i feel like--at least according to the press--teams would pick clarkson over dlo. this makes zero logical sense, of course. pure laker tax, imo.

Dlo so much fun to watch when he's feeling it but frankly it's all a bit sad.

Basketball should be fun to both play and watch and he's unwanted in this league despite fans in the seats standing and cheering him on like few other guys can do. He'll bring this stuff against bad teams so you don't necessarily want him if you're tanking but you can't trust him in critical games so no contenders want him. Throw in that his position is the deepest in the league and you get the Dlo situation

Yeah it’s tough with Dlo. He’s got a lot of talent and is a fun player but just not serious. He’s inconsistent. Of course his salary kind of fits all that. It’s hard to find a player of equal talent at that position and price to take his place though. Mainly I’d like to trade Gabe for a big. Secondarily I’d like to move Rui and Wood for a more consistent player whether that’s Vucevic or a 2 way wing like DFS or Cam Johnson.

If we aren’t rebuilding this summer, just bring DLO back at like $15 mill per season.

Or considerably less if no one is offering more. I doubt he gets a non tax mid level offer elsewhere?

it's going to be hilarious when we bring him back after two years of trying to trade him, lol.

that said, if we just let him walk, we're back in play for s&t options or full mle use next year.

i'd probably caution against the latter, as i think it's generally a bad proposition.

Losing DLO for nothing would suck but I also wouldn't be surprised if we brought him back as a backup PG.

With that said - we should be using this contract to upgrade one of our 3 positions where we're weak (PG, SF, or C). If we don't use thi scontract...then we will not get that amount of money back over teh summer

i agree mostly. problem is that if his value is only as an expiring, you typically get overpriced players for that. you might be better off just letting him walk and using the mle to sign a replacement. problem is that replacement is likely to be worse than dlo by a good margin.

i think it's clear that our strategy is to try to add dlo's salary as ballast to get an upgrade on him, talent-wise (probably at another position, though?). just not sure that deal is out there. we've been looking for over a year. guessing we'll look all the way up to the deadline, too.

but keeping him isn't the end of the world, as his bird rights might be useful either to us (to keep him at a lower salary and slated as a backup from the jump) or in s&t.

also, if things really go south (think career-ending injury for lebron, etc.), we'll probably be glad to have the ability to duck under the tax for a year. as with the first rounders, we can't just take back bad long-term salary for marginal upgrades right now. obviously if an allstar comes available, of course, picks and take on the financial burden. but not for the jerami grants of the world.
