http://sports.yahoo.com/news/michael-beasley-signs-one-year-deal-with-shanghai-sharks-185035868.html I was never in favor of bringing him to camp and I'm glad we didn't. Well anyway off to China he goes. Here are a couple of excerpts from Wojo's article.
What a pothead. Only 25 and without any future. No one returns from CBA. For the record, I didn't want him either.
I guess Beasley sees this gig as free money for glorified exhibition games, but I am sure China will get sick of him as well since 30 teams did not want him in their team (for the price and conditions he wanted). I think more vets will end up going to China as they get squeezed out of non-vet min contracts. Consequently it will get harder to get these jobs. Though Marbury did pretty well (just going to google if he really did get a statue) and he seems to gone cold turkey off that bad vaseline habit he had.
I was fine with bringing him to camp because I figured we have nothing to lose, but I think I was wrong. It appears to me this guy's head and heart aren't really in the game and being great, it seems like a job, for really good pay sort of thing. It's odd, because he was so good in college and nobody gets that far and that good without working hard, but maybe he's good with not advancing beyond where he's gotten to this point.
I was never in favor of signing him because I didnt want him to take away minutes from Nick or Wesley. Glad he's going overseas and won't be on our roster this year
Too bad... This guy could've been real good. Past aside, I thought even this was a great opportunity for him. The team seemed right for him. They're in desperate need for a wing scorer, and I thought he might've been able to flourish. Guess not. Have fun in China?
This is pretty much how I feel. I wasn't excited about bringing him in, but I figured why not? I always felt like we could do better though.
What a waste of talent. He could have been a top tier player if his mind was in the game and not on drugs. Imagine if he went #1 instead?
China really has become a landing zone for our screwups and/or malcontents. Kenyon, JR, DWest, Not a great reflection on NBA players as a whole.
just another example of a guy who had massive potential but could never get his head to the right place i really thought he was going to be a star in this league and i will admit, i was kind of hoping the lakers brought him to camp just in case he would finally realize his potential. he'll probably become a star in china and get his own statue like marbury
