i have so many thoughts. the biggest one (and i've already said this): where's the league-wide outrage? when the lakers got gasol, everyone lost their minds. this is the lowest cost i've ever seen for a player of paul's stature. it's hard to believe, and the press is just like...meh. and i'm guessing the league won't line up and conspire to keep houston from trading for another star with their crap assets like they did a few days ago when george was set to be a laker. this stinks.
Houston didn't have the room to sign him. Plus this extra year he has gives him time to see if him and Harden actually fit together.
so, when the lakers were good, it was bad for the league to concentrate talent. but when they're bad, it's good for the league? am i doing it right?
T That doesn't mean he didn't turn down money. Some team would likely give him the max. If he was only ever going to consider Houston, then you're right though.
Chris Paul did technically leave money on the table, but it's not that much. He could have gotten his raise this summer, but since he was traded Houston holds his Bird Rights. That makes him still eligible for a 5/212-ish million dollar contract next summer if he re-signs with Houston. The trade kicker he is waiving was worth about 3-4 million or so, but since he's going to Houston who doesn't have a state tax, he's making that up and about 5-6 million more on top of it. There's a chance he doesn't re-sign in Houston or that he gets hurt and in that way, yes he did leave money on the table.
I "begged the question" yesterday how it was possible for Chris Paul to know and agree to all the details of how Houston was going to use him with Harden and the financial details to be agreed upon, if free agency doesn't begin until midnight tomorrow June 30. Seems a valid question, and I'm glad we have a FO now capable of competing on a level playing field. http://www.latimes.com/sports/clippers/la-sp-paul-rockets-tampering-20170628-story.html
yeah, teams just skirt the rules by not involving the general manager directly. still stinks. when howard was with us, kevin mchale and others from houston met with him during the all star game in houston. i thought that was ridiculous.
Heard a rumor that Paul and LeBron could go to Los Angeles next summer if things don't work out in Houston with Harden. That doesn't make much sense to me. First off the Lakers have Lonzo Ball. Second if Paul left Houston the reason in all likelihood was he couldn't make it work with another ball dominant superstar. How does that change with LeBron?
Paul and Lebron are both great players, but they're a horrible fit. USA Basketball is a different beast. NBA basketball? Not sure how it's going to work.
This is soooo f****** good! When West signed on it was like noooo they were just getting ready to implode. Looks like they may still anyway. Especially when it comes out that Doc the genius was actually stupid enough to have alienated his star player and poisoned the locker room with the NO NO of all NO NOs you'd think for an NBA Coach and (President ?) of a team by playing favorites with his son over the welfare of a professional team. Little league .... sure whatever. But do that because he had the power to do it should get him fired. Boom goes the dynamite to their club and their "fan" base after all.
Lou and Beverley already laughing at their own poster is one of the more meta things I've seen in a while.
