I dunno man, might not even belong in NBA discussion. Not like this guy is ever getting a head coaching job in the NBA again. Someone might hire him as the guy that walks up and down the stairs selling hot dogs and stuff, so I guess technically that could be NBA related.

I think I'm being generous in assuming there will be some kindhearted eccentric billionaire owner, that will take pity on Byron and hire him as his chauffeur.

    Don't you guys know?

Byron has found a perfect niche in the NBA as the coach you hire to lose games and get great draft picks.

LOLOL ^^^ yes he really is. Tries his a** off with the 30 year old Xs and Os plus his drill sergeant wannabe mentality and no one can accuse HIM specifically or the FO of trying to tank.

    Highlights:
    - Felt a bit blindsighted, but doesn't hold a grudge.
    - Thought the Lakers knew it would be a long rebuild with him so he thought he'd stick around for it all.
    - Has no idea whether or not Jeanie knew about the firing, was informed by Mitch they weren't picking up his option.
    - Thinks D'Angelo can be a good player. Byron thinks he can score and sees the floor well. Some tools you can't teach.
    - If he puts in the work, he can be a great player.
    - Felt he had to give D'Angelo some tough love. Byron thought D'Angelo came in feeling entitled, thought he was a vet.
    - Was hard on him sometimes to make sure he "was brought back down to Earth" and that nothing in the NBA is given to you or comes easy.
    - Said he'd talk to Luke if Luke called asking for advice/information.
    - Thinks Kobe's last game will be one of the greatest endings in basketball ever.
    - Kobe laid his heart out every night, appreciates that.
    - Told a good story about talking to Kobe during the last game (same story he told in post game)
    - Hasn't interviewed for other coaching positions; told his agent not to ask though. He wants to take a break. Spoke highly of Sacramento though.

Well Scott did say he will forever love the Laker organization regardless of what happened. Maybe, just maybe he is right with Russell but communication between them as men would not have hurt. Still his coaching style was not fitting in plus it was disorganized and unprepared. It was a decision that had to be made. Good to hear that will help Walton if the latter were to ask. Class on his part...

No, your phone is working just fine. You don't have a snowball's chance in hell at either gig...or any gig. BUM!

Stay far, far away Luke. The only reason to talk to Scott is to find out what NOT to do.

Thanks for the highlights on that interview @therealdeal , because I'm not listening to it. If I never have to hear B0ron speak again I will be pretty happy. That he thinks he was going to be around for this entire rebuild tells me how clueless he really is though. Rebuilds are about just that, building, going forward, improving. We had an arguably better roster this season than last, we had hardly any injuries at all, yet we won fewer games and took a big step back. That's not progress, that's not building anything. If he doesn't get that's why needed to go, he remains oblivious to how bad of a coach he is.

Obviously he isn't going to say that sort of thing, but that he continues to take no real blame, not saying he could have done a better job, instead citing the reason for the terrible season being a rebuild, shows how stubborn and prideful he is, and again, why he HAD to go. And of course no team has contacted him about their coaching vacancy, he has to be on the bottom of anyone's long list if he's on it at all. Worst coach in NBA history, coming off winning 17 games, only the Cavs were dumb enough to recently hire him, and then us because of nostalgia or sentimental reasons.

    Agreed.

I think there's almost certainly truth to his comments on Russell. I think D'Angelo proved through the season that he's still a kid and has some immaturity issues. Hopefully he starts to get it with a coach that's able to speak more of his language. Not to mention D'Angelo said his closest comparison was Curry coming into his career and not many people know more of what it takes to be Steph Curry than Luke Walton. That young man needs to be ready to answer the bell more often this season. I think he will.

Byron got some tough love from mitch.

Tough love is not the way to reign in an immature player like Russell.

In fact, tough love is never the answer. I hate that mentality.

I think he's actually clueless enough that he believes he's a candidate for another head coaching job in the NBA. W.O.W.

He's in for a rude awakening and lots of crickets while waiting by the phone.
