I did a detailed examination of the numbers around Byron's teams when we hired him (I presume this was on CL). He was a bad choice for the team, and I opposed the hire. Maybe if Kobe weren't on the team, he could make this into a better team, but it would never be a competitor. He has never really developed young talent well, except by turning the team over to that player. I'm not sure why he insists on the safety wheels with our rooks now.

At least if you have a stale offense, you have a top tier defense. People don't like him because he runs his players into the ground, but how is that any different than what Scott did? At least he is an elite coach on one end of the floor. And he makes PGs (1st string to 3rd string) look damn good.

does anybody know anything about shaka smart and his coaching? I know he's a good coach in college but I don't know what his schemes are and if they are transferrable to the NBA. I remember him and Brad Stevens were the young college coaches having great success despite not having the top college players. Smart is now at University of Texas and should be interesting to watch him coach a big school team.

Yeah, well I guess you can preach it all you want, but if you don't truly teach it, it doesn't matter.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think Thibs didn't take the opportunity to coach Anthony Davis to see how things played out in Lakerland. Reportedly, he's a workaholic and not working must be killing him.

On a sidenote, he's attended Clippers and GS practices. He's also been seen at one of our games .

Might as well just make Kobe player/coach at this point.

Hard practices are the least of my worries when it comes to Byron coaching this team. That's fixing problem #278 on the list.

Just read Doc's post. Very well said.
I wasn't very high on the Scott hiring, I really wanted Hollins or Thibs albeit that would have been almost difficult without giving up something to the Bulls, but I thought how much worse can we get? I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and see what he could do. After all, he did make the finals two years in a row, and led the Hornets to a great regular season record and the playoffs....a million years ago. I tried to overlook the fact that his gig in Cleveland was disastrous. I tried to overlook the fact that his teams recently were bad defensively. Last year in retrospect, even though there was hardly any talent on the team, this "defensive coach" was last in the league in defensive effenciency. A defensive coach doesn't lets his team be that bad defensively, no matter who's on the team. And now we're seeing the bad sequel that's even worse. After last night, even after two games my patience has run out. I am firmly on the bandwagon with a bottle of Dewars waiting for the headline that Scott has been relieved of coaching duties.

I realize that yes it would look bad to the media and present a picture of instability in he FO, but right now I don't care about any of that. The man CAN NOT COACH. If he could, the players would be playing accordingly. It's sad that some of us are considering MDA a better coach simply because he can design an offense and players will actually run it. And most of us hate MDA. Right now our team sucks when it shouldn't. A least not this bad. Something needs to happen and soon, public image be damned.

If that's how he's going to coach, maybe we should Tweet some of the players advice to give him on subs, rotations, plays, minutes, etc.

    Way to lead, you d******!

We just got done with only the second game of the season. And the players are already tired? What was all the running for then in the preseason? I am so confused.

And with these long practices, has anything come from it? Because it doesn't look like they practice.

The schedule has more b2b and traveling than it used to, apparently. I don't think most training staffs are current (we're not) on best practice. I think most teams are generally clueless about how to manage the wear and tear of a season as well as (and this is different) the workload from camp to the start of the season.
