the young guys are not going to develop properly with byron as coach. if the FO doesn't realize that they all need to go as well

Byron takes clueless and inept and moron to another level. Why is it so difficult to just pull these kids aside and have a conversation with them? There's no need to call them out in front of the entire team or in the media. That's not how you're gonna get through to the kids.

What The Absolute F***? Is this true, where is this from? Clarkson had a slump, but he's been probably our most consistent player all season, with his effort for sure. And I realize this was before yesterday's game, but he wants to probably start Randle, so he plays him 15 mins and calls him out after the game? And Kobe back at SG? He can't chase SG's around anymore. And I know people around here have said Larry can play SF, but I'm not seeing it. How? So Russ/Kobe/Nance, Randle, Hibbert. Uh, ok, I can't think of a list of problems with that one at all..

I mentioned Brooks in another thread. He's not my first choice, but I'm not mad at the FO if they went in that direction. He does get some blame for his X's and O's or lack thereof without being too creative and relying on isolation plays for Durant and Westbrook. He's also mismanaged and been outcoached in PO's series. Again, not perfect, but any coaching candidate you get is going to have flaws.

The positive, though: builds and fosters relationship players, great with the media, and has a track record of developing Durant, Harden, Ibaka, Westbrook, Jackson, and Adams. He has an attention to detail on the defensive end that we sorely lack right now. Most importantly, he could be the bridge to Durant and/or Westbrook when we pursue them during free agency. They professed their love playing for Brooks and were hurt when OKC made the decision to terminate him.

Do I think he gets us over the hump? Probably not. Nevertheless, he makes a lot of sense on many levels.

I wouldn't go with Brooks due to the simple fact that he overplayed Kendrick Perkins in the 2012 NBA finals and refused to see that the Thunder were significantly better without him on the floor. That is Byron Scott-esque and I have a bad feeling he would do more of the same here in LA and with a less talented roster, I would get frustrated too easily with Brooks. I'll pass.

Frankly I want our next coach to be the coach that we win multiple championships with. Which means I probably want him here for 5-10 years. I don't think Brooks is that guy - especially because as you mentioned he gets out coached in the Playoffs. I'd rather us roll the dice on someone like Luke Walton and watch him grow with the team.

Luke's my first choice. I've supported that idea since last year when people weren't mentioning it or thought the idea was preposterous when I mentioned it. He's getting very, very valuable experience right now in OKC. You can't replicate that. He's a hot commodity with a growing buzz around the league. I'll support Luke, Thibs, Brooks; all in that order.

Great post Chillbongo, and I have to agree with you. I think Scott Brooks is more symptomatic relief, not an ideal long term solution. I never felt wow-ed in any way by his coaching. Not to say he's bad, but I just wasn't that impressed by him. Developmental coach? Ok, but I'd rather roll the dice on a young guy like Luke who could grow into the HC role over time with the young team. Plus Luke is an insider here in the Laker organization and I think he'd be accepted easily and would receive plenty of help if he needed it. Byron could have been like that but instead he's as stubborn as a mule and refuses to listen to anyone else. My gut instinct is Scotty Brooks would be like Mike Brown part two.

Current coaches that have shown capable of winning a championship:

    Greg Popovich
    Steve Kerr
    Eric Spoelstra
    Doc Rivers
    Rick Carlisle

These are the ONLY current active NBA coaches to have won a title. Not a lot of options.

We are likely looking at second tier coaches at best given our roster and current management situation.

As a matter of fact if you throw in Phil Jackson and Larry Brown and Pat Riley, you can go back about 20 years to Rudy T before you can find another coach that won a championship. No joke.

True but Carlisle and Kerr and Spoelstra weren't automatically deemed the greatest. In fact Spoelstra had a really tough start to his coaching career.

Everyone starts somewhere. Who is the next guy up?

Carlisle learned under Chuck Daly and Larry Bird
    Spoelstra under Riley
Kerr under Pop, Phil, and dealing with D'Antoni

Need to find a young Jedi, not an old retread Sith Lord

Three young Phil protégés out there in Kerr, Walton, and Fisher. Also BShaw

Have to look around and see if others are out there from under the major "Winning" coaching trees. Isn't the Hawks guy formerly a Pop asst? They are out there.

I think if he seeks advice from others he respects, they will steer him away from this job compared to where he is at.

Learn winning ways and cherry pick your opportunity later. He's too young to be in a rush and to make a bad decision. He probably needs to build connections over several years to have access to several solid asst coaches. I don't think he's coming. YET. Maybe someday.

I thought the same thing of Derek Fisher, but he made the jump.

I think it'll depend on exactly how much the Lakers are willing to invest in Luke.

Luke will jump at the opportunity to be head coach foe your Los Angeles Lakers. The question is, will the Lakers finally have the stones to invest in a hire that A.) Doesn't have NBA head coaching experience and B.) Requires thinking outside the box.
