Starting him off the bench is a very good idea...I also like what Luke said paraphrasing 'if we are out of the PO picture with ten games to go and the veterans have played enough minutes, I'll start the young guys.'

I'd love that specifically for Ingram. He can accelerate his growth, gain confidence, and know what he needs to work on next summer.

Here is the quote from Luke:

"You develop the young core by rewarding them when they play well," Walton said. "If there's 10 games left in the season and out of the playoffs and there's some vets that played long minutes all season, maybe you play all your young guys to finish out the season. But when you're going through the season, you're not doing anyone any favors just by playing young guys so they can play if they're not out there playing the right way."

As talented as Ingram is, Deng is a really good and reliable player, and there's no way a rookie can be as consistent. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Deng is a starter for the next two seasons.

    Can't say I'm surprised.

Ingram better be the starter next season but this season, he is still so young, I think its ok to take away some pressure and let his come off the bench and get used to the NBA speed and physicality.

Deng is a very capable starter so Ingram having to earn it is fine with me. Now if it were between Nick Young and Ingram then he should absolutely start.

I still expect Deng to get significant minutes at the 4 because :

    1) He has better at this position lately
    2) Ingram still needs to play major minutes
    3) Randle- Mozgov = bad spacing

With likely rising stars D'Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle and rookie Brandon Ingram, the Los Angeles Lakers are a team built for the future. Currently though, the Lakers are woefully young and the team will rely on the veteran expertise of Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov to provide knowledgeable advice to the youngsters when needed.
Ingram, however, is not even waiting for the start of training camp to soak up some veteran knowledge. While playing with the USA Select Team this summer, Ingram got advice from their counterparts on the USA Olympic team.
"Well, the NBA veterans that I've been around, they always try to help. Even guys from other teams," Ingram said during an appearance on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on Monday. "When I played with the USA Select Team, all those guys were giving me advice. Even guys playing pickup coming to the Lakers facility. (Including) Andre Iguodala."
Iguodala has apparently taken a special shine to Ingram as the Lakers rookie told Cowherd that the two occasionally text about how he can be a better defender. Defense is one area Ingram believes he can excel at and Iguodala has told him he has the potential to be special on that side of the ball.
"I watch a lot of his play defensively. He's a great defensive guy," Ingram told Cowherd about Iguodala. "I even text with him sometimes, and he just tells me it's going to be a process, but I have a chance to be special on the defensive end and offensive end. "He's long. He has a 7-foot-3 wingspan. He's smart. He gets his hands on a lot of deflections, and he just plays the right way."
Considering that Lakers coach Luke Walton was an assistant in Golden State, he can probably help give Ingram some pointers on how to be an excellent defender just like Iguodala. Ingram's offensive game has been compared to Kevin Durant, which is high praise, so if he is able to also bring it on the defensive end like Iguodala, his potential for greatness is quite high.
Iguodala is right, of course. It will be a process for Ingram to realize his full potential and it will take some time. How long it will take is up to Ingram, but if he is already reaching out and talking with veteran players, then he is already on the right path.

Good lord, can I like this kid's attitude and focus any more??

Ingram seems to be so coachable and has such a good head on his shoulders.

He may not get the PT to pull it off, but I can root for him anyways.

Just a couple headlines I read throughout the day. Ingram has been texting Iguodola. And he is throwing out the first pitch at tomorrow's Dodger game (Austin Rivers did for today's game and got booed off the mound).

Oh NO .... feel bad for the kid because he seems like a gamer. Got his face busted up bad in the playoffs and kept playing his guts out. But again ..... another Clipper shows up at Dodger Stadium and they boo the s*** of him.

If Deng starts 2 seasons from now, Ingram may have not lived up to expectations
