10 years ago, not today We saw DLo and Vando getting played out in postseason for being good in only one side of the floor Thybulle ghosted too. Bertans...so many guys
Unless you are just super slow afoot, like DLo, Swider, ect, there is absolutely no excuses for guys getting paid insane amounts of money to not learn how to play proper positional defense. If John Stockton was able to become a good positional defender, MOST of these fools can. The problem is that they usually Coast by and keep rising to the level of “NBA prospect” because of their ability to put the ball in the hoop. Most systems don’t demand that these scoring standouts also learn how to play good team and positional defense until they get on a NBA playoff team, or are under a Coach who requires it.
100% agree Fringe players in the NBA need to put in full effort and learn to play defense Actually all players should be able to play defense
10yrs ago? Duncan robinson n Bertans got big deals within the last 5yrs....if all nba players were 3/D n 2 way players teams wouldn't be able to put together a team with the cap
If Buddy and McBuckets can have long NBA careers then Blake can probably get a shot at some point. But even if he's bad at everything else, still gotta try. Not boxing out, not rebounding, not even jumping for rebounds, not diving or fighting for loose balls... if it's heading his way he's reluctant to give up his camp spot in the corner. He's a tweener but will have to be solely a PF at the NBA level. Has to try harder at something else and be less selfish.
Duncan disappeared for a while, he came back because he improved his defense and drives. Bertans got the contract and immediately vanished from NBA rotation the year after. Matt Ryan, Swider are other recent examples in our team. JTA too. If you only play defense or just shoot, you're out. Game evolved a lot and it's more demanding. But yeah, 100% agree with the take above on defense. A lot of is just effort. And if you put time on it, you can become passable pretty quickly. Rebound is another area that just effort and some practice takes you a long way. They're skills less linked to talent or ability

Being as FAT as Deng prevents him from doing anything else on the court except keep shooting when he catches it.
Right. He’s a one trick guy but that one trick is pretty good (and he’s shown that through college). But, he can’t be terrible at everything else particularly effort. It’s really hard for me to say anything on these guys with how bad the team has been overall so I’m not getting too high or low on any of them. It’s always an uphill climb for undrafted guys to make a roster.
you know it! I’m excited for the season already but still disappointed Rob hasn’t open up a regular roster spot for Blake
