Did you watch Zu in the summer league? He's definitely not ready for Prime Time. Obviously Luke is not too confident in him backing up Lopez. Wouldn't be surprise he's gone at the deadline also.
I think Magic & Rob are thinking ahead here. Maybe this is to give us another option for next summer besides the likely very expensive one of resigning Lopez. + We get a year to see if Bogut's gonna be productive again and can resign him cheap next summer to have with a one-year-older Zubak. I don't think we have given up on Zu just yet, he's a couple year project imo just to see some NBA-like production. Too damn young and big. A red-shirt year here will be fine for him.
I'm good with this. After watching Zu in summer league, I wouldn't trot his butt out there to back up Lopez either. His regression was noticeably bad.
Surprising, but a good move, nonetheless. As others have noted, Bogut's health is a concern and will likely be monitored and on a minutes restriction. When healthy, he's productive. Solid rebounder, good defender, good passer, knows the system, and has an edge too him. Good job, Magic & Rob.
On the bright side, Jimmy and Mitch aren't in charge anymore and we're not arguing about Bogut getting a $80 million dollar deal. Seriously, this should be a wake up call to Zu. Step up or be included in the Deng deal. Despite Summer League, I hope Zu stays.
This is..surprising, but if he can still play at all it is a good move. I guess they have lost some faith in Zu as they see him way more than us, and Bryant is really, really raw. If we are actually trying to be good next season, having vets that can play (and play defense) is a smart plan. No taking is going to happen next season or we give Boston a good pick, we need to win as much as possible.
Zubac might not be enough of an athlete to run with whats coming. It's not entirely his fault. He was busting his a** but he just couldnt keep up. He started making mistakes and so on... Fatigue makes cowards of us all. Zubac either is going to have to drop major weight or he will have to be the back up and play the half court game with the bench guys when Lonzo isn't running and gunning.
Well this was unexpected. Still I like this move. Bogut is a great option to backup Lopez when we want to go big and a good defender if he can stay healthy. Was happy to see he's only 32 as well, because I thought he was older. The age means he will start declining soon, but he should still have a year or two left in him at a high level.
Seems like a move that only a team that is expecting to make the playoffs would make. What's not to like?
^^Kob probably told Rob to make the move. Dec. 18th should be alot of fun for Bogsy! Dude is brittle as they come, but a broken and healed bone is far more favorable than coming back from something like an ACL or a torn Achilles. We were dead last in overall defense last season and bringing in any semblance of D makes me happy. KCP followed by Bogut (when healthy)....I'll take it! Not to mention Rob and Magic are playing chess here...with the Dan Fegan debacle, ISE was trying to hold onto most of their premium clientele. We' made nice with Klutch/Rich Paul, now we threw ISE a bone. Other potential playoff teams wanted him, but he landed with us for the vet min when we still had the room exemption of 4.3M to hand out. Something's at play here and it may take some time to materialize but with this move we also made Zu, Bryant and possibly even Lopez available in any deadline deals heading into 2018 where its blatantly obvious now that we're going to be real players aiming to do big things! #TurnOftheTide #f***Coming,LakersAreHere
