Start to believe we are contractually obliged to start him despite the fact I have no idea if this kind of clause exists

Agreed ... The reasoning probably starts with and stops at the size difference argument

We had plenty of problems last night, but the Drummond fit was always questionable and the idea that they’re focused on making it a longer term thing is concerning. For cheap as a backup? Sure. As our starting center? That’s gonna be a no from me dawg.

i think we made similar deals with Shroder, Gasol and Harrell too. Anyone on this team not named James or Davis shouldn’t be guaranteed a doggone thing.

gasol should have started, and i think we did offer him that job (and that's why howard went to philly, which was fine by me). hopefully, we didn't piss him off with the drummond nonsense (but i think we did), and he'll return next year.

i don't think we promised harrell anything other than the same role he had with the clips and a chance to stick it to them. hopefully, we didn't piss him off with the playoff benching, and he'll consider returning next year.

i don't think we had to promise schroder anything because we got him in trade, but i do think we tried to make him happy so that he'd sign an extension. i don't understand why we didn't try him as a 6th man (his natural role) after he turned down our offers, though. that one's a mystery.

we clearly promised drummond a starting role, and we deserve what that got us.

yeah, im convinced there's an order from the FO to play him at all costs

there's no reason harrell shouldn't be getting minutes, especially when the suns started to go up by a lot

The fact the Lakers seem to need to give him minutes and now want a long term deal is perplexing. Same themes with the Harell signing.
-you need one of more of these things from a big with Lebron:
    1) ability to stretch the floor (Bosh/Love/Frye/AD)
    2) ability to catch and finish (Bosh/Love/AD) as if you're open or you have your man pinned your getting the ball
    3) ability to defend the PnR

Drummond fits none of above: his best strength is rebounding when if you have a healthy Lebron you already have an elite rebounding forward. Both him and Harell just seem like terrible fits long terms

we did well with mcgee, howard, and gasol at center over the past two years, so i think we can make it work with lots of different types. i'm not seeing drummond as one of them, though.

When you have a bad take here, it’s ok to say you were wrong. I was wrong about Drummond. Thought he had some valuable skills to bring to the team, thought he could be a solid defender and rebounder, thought it was good to keep him off the Nets. Turns out most of what he does is take up space in the lane, get a lot of rebounds off his own terrible misses, have a Kwame-like post game, find himself in the wrong spots defensively, not be able to jump over a glass of orange juice (a quote I always remember from a newspaper said about Magic during his ‘96 comeback), and just in her general not have a good feel for the game. I guess the Nets having him wouldn’t be so bad. And I guess when a team like the Cavs cuts you, there’s probably a good reason.

Nonsense! To the death! It was your take, by god defend it at all costs including ignoring anything and everything that makes sense which is said back to you. Even more it endears you to other people on the forum.

Rebounding stats need to be better: like they need to have a stat just for contested rebounds which excludes rebounds off FT's and doesn't double or even triple count boards off your own tips or missed layups

i think i was ok with getting drummond because i was worried the nets might get him, but then they got aldridge who was a better fit anyway!

i was initially shocked drummond was being bought out (i posted that here), but as i dug a little big (it seemed like we were getting him), it became apparent why.

what i didn't see coming was him being handed the starting role on day 1. to me, that was the real killer. if he was our 15mpg backup center that occasionally doesn't play, i don't think i'd be bothered at all. we needed another big body, as we all said.

it was the way it was handled. it alienated gasol, sent a bad message to future FAs, and tanked our chemistry in multiple ways. if the injuries didn't do the job on our season, this might have by itself, tbh.

We played way better without him, I sincerely and strongly hope he’s not back next season.

Regular season and post season are two different beasts. If he wants to return to ease AD'S load for the final 16 wins, count me in. I think he'll be within our price point and our superstars clearly want him here. With a training camp, rest, and a full season; I think he'll do his job just fine.

Honestly rather have Damian Jones: better lob threat and smarter on defense. His FT shooting indicates he probably can add some range as well.
Plus no ego: Drummond hasn't worked out anywhere when it comes to winning

I’m just not a fan, he’s a very dumb player, he had a Kwame-esque post game, he doesn’t even block shots or go for lobs because he can’t jump so he’s not a vertical threat like even Damian Jones was. We sorely miss that from like McGee and Dwight.
