http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...--refs-for-giving-harden-calls-192133216.html I think many of us have noticed this.
This was a brilliant and satiric way to describe the pro beard favoritism in the league. Maybe the Lakers should hire ZZ top on ten day contracts.
My favorite line is this one: "And it's possible, of course, that referees will at some points give Harden the benefit of the doubt on a coin-flip call because of his earned reputation as someone who seeks out and creates contact — he's finished in the top 10 in free throws made and attempted in each of the last three years, and leads the NBA in both categories thus far this season, getting to the line 10 times per game." Harden initiates all the contact but he gets the calls. How does one defend getting hit and then getting called for the foul? I don't knock Harden for doing it because the refs are on his side. I knock the refs and the NBA FO for not stepping in and fixing this loophole of a player. The Rockets wouldn't be nearly as good if it werent for the gifts given to Harden. The guy is a good player with a very good skill set that is being treated like a great player with superstar skill set.
I wish that everytime he drives and twitches his head back to draw a foul that Artest appears and elbows him.
lots of win in this thread. i've been waiting for a player to break ranks and start openly questioning the officiating on harden. usually, players hold their tongues about the this stuff, like it's some sort of bro code. but i know the tide started turning on wade after a couple years of just ridiculous officiating, so i have hope that maybe more folks start to speak up and harden's strategy stops working. i agree with puffy: hard to fault harden when it works so often. they won the game vs. dallas on a couple bs harden calls down the stretch. it's on the refs to stop falling for it. the fact that film on this is readily available (as is the rulebook), and that other players don't get the same calls indicates to me that this is on purpose (like it was with wade). maybe mark cuban will step up and take a big fine to get some more national media exposure on this?
I absolutely agree. He's Dwayne Wade 2.0 now and the League wants it badly. They've been waiting for a SG to come take Kobe's spot and they've decided it's Harden. I'm not saying the NBA wants Kobe out because they have nothing to gain from him leaving the League. They're just looking for the next Kobe and they found a guy with some skill. Now they're trying to make him something he isn't.
Agreed. I like Klay Thompson's game quite a bit. I haven't seen Jimmy Butler play but I hear he's a top notch defender.
I think players don't traditionally break ranks because they understand "superstar" calls. You are going to get 1 or 2 calls to go your favor if you are a Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Bron, KD etc etc Most players accept that as part of the game and most fans do too. Yes, we all complain about the other teams star getting that star treatment while the star from the team we support isn't getting any but what Harden gets is insane. During our game he literally pushed into Lin (I think) was falling down before the contact, heard the whistle and tossed the ball up (which he made) for the AND1. The defender never made a play except get ran over. Players are getting taken out of games because of horrible lopsided officiating. Im glad Amare said something
Yup. I hope more players say something. Harden gets super-duper star treatment while Kobe can't buy a call. No wonder he gets so mad. Kobe takes more contact on an average play than Harden does by far and Kobe gets less calls. I'd be mad too. What does 19 years in the League get you if not a few extra whistles?
You are right Real. On so many plays Kobe gets tackled and no call but If you dare to breathe on Harden he'll get the call.
So, Harden doesn't get 90% of the calls today (only 6 free throws), and he shoots 10/31 for 26 points.
LMAO!! Never grows old with these .....the guy makes so many flat footed, full on brain fart, staring & not reacting moves on defense.
