I figured they'd give it to Curry out of respect to him since they'd already given Durant one. Giving Durant two, like LJ and Jazzy pointed out, is going to create a rift. I think Curry felt like he earned that one and on some level maybe bringing Durant in is taking away from Curry's legacy. I get the feeling that'll all work itself out, but it's still there. Like all dynasties, this one has an expiration date too.
I get the averages, but I go with what I saw. Curry had a better game 1 than Durant, who couldn’t buy a 3. Then in game 2, Durant was super efficient, and had a really good game, but Curry took over and hit 5 threes in a row when the game was still a game and put it away. No question Durant had the better game 3, he was on fire, and Curry only put up 11. That game was the slight difference in their point averages for the series. Lastly, game 4 Durant had a super solid triple double with 20/10/12, but Curry once again put his stamp on it and poured in 37 points and hit 7 threes. To me he deserved the award this time, one huge game doesn’t win it for Durant for me, this was more Curry’s series overall.
You can't be that bad for 25% of the series and win MVP . Curry didn't shoot 50% from the field once in this series and his 2 pts FG% was very bad I understand Curry gravity and impact on the Warriors but KD is the better player and showed it once again in the Finals.
I also don't think curry cares about the mvp going to Durant as much as some are saying...I mean yea it did look like he was a little annoyed but who knows what he was thinking about at the moment. may not have had anything to do with that at all and we just make assumptions. I severely doubt this will ever be an issue between them
I'm not saying it'll be some massive point, just one little thing. When (not if) things start taking a down turn, this can be one of those moments people look back on. Durant has been pretty candid about how his legacy looks with these Warriors. There's no way Curry doesn't think about those things too.
maybe, maybe not. this is also the curry that took a paycut before for the better of the team. I'm not saying he doesn't think about it, but I think curry could very well be happy with the title of best 3pt shooter/scorer ever - finals mvps be damned. it will be curious to see if egos (which have been largely kept in check so far) start to surface
3 rings is outstanding, but without at least one FMVP it does hurt. If Kobe would have gotten at least one of the FMVP(s) from 00-02, it would have absolutely strengthened his legacy.
lol while he may have hinted at stuff, we dont have any idea at what. he himself said we have no clue haha
Steph cared. You could tell. Not in a jealous way, but in a I worked so hard and came up short again frustration way. They all care about their legacy. Kobe did, Jordan did and LeBron definitely does. After 30, the window gets tighter, there's no guarantee they'll go back or win another one. Emerging teams like Philly, Pelicans, Boston, are in the way, along with Houston. He'll probably never get a finals MVP. Even when he was the head in charge before KD came he didn't win FMVP Andre Igoudala did. That's gotta sting. Then the conversations may start "Did Curry need KD to carry him" etc... Gone are the days people only care about how many championships you have, they wanna see your work that led up to those titles. Not having a FMVP might be his blemish.
haha i guess im just not seein what everything else thinks they are seeing. not every single player focuses on the same things either. would kobe have wanted 6 titles or 3+ finals mvps? pretty sure we know the answer to that one. im not saying steph for sure didnt care, but i think its being overblown is all
could be ego-driven turmoil, but it might have been other stuff...i'm guessing off-court issues. like the brent barry/tony parker thing?
one of the best parts about the warriors winning is that last night's game was the last time we'll ever have to see kendrick perkins's ugly a** mug
That thought was the first thing that came to mind when I was starting to feel sorry for Cleveland. Seriously though, I did feel bad for Nance and Clarkson...
I personally don’t put too much stock into Finals MVPs. Kobe didn’t win one from 00-02 as stated and we all know how valuable he was during the entire playoff run. Pacers/Sixers/Nets didn’t exactly have a juggernaut down low and we exploited that as we should have. This year it could have gone either way but Durant was probably the right decision, as outstanding as Curry was. Only one award to go around.
