I loved the battle between he and Oladipo. Oladipo might be the best player from his draft class and he's now on his third year. D'Angelo played him to at least a draw (and I think D'Angelo might have outplayed him overall).

    Last night's numbers:
    Oladipo- 26 points 4 rebounds 2 assists 1 steal 1 block 10/17 overall 2/3 from deep 2 turnovers in 35:37 minutes.
    Russell- 27 points 2 rebounds 3 assists 3 steals 0 blocks 11/19 overall 2/5 from deep 2 turnovers in 36:25 minutes.

Russell chewed up payton and spit him out, and oladipo didn't have much more luck. defensively, he's really starting to learn how to use his length and quick hands to bother ballhandlers. this in addition to his already stellar sense of when to drop back in passing lanes on the pick and roll. just needs some better off-ball awareness and ability to fight through screens.

this is a good one, folks.

Chewed him up to the point where Skiles bench Payton a couple minutes into the 3rd quarter. Take your defensive reputation and have a seat Mr. Payton.

I think clearly having Metta on the floor was inspiring to he and Randle defensively. Their hands were SO MUCH more active than they've been when Metta isn't on the floor. That play where he chased down Oladipo and got him to dribble into the corner and turn it over? That's textbook Ron Artest right there. That's Kobe Bryan one-stop defense right there. Beautiful.

I thought Payton was exposed as being pretty one-dimensional in that game. They were more successful with Fournier out on the floor with Hezonja.

LOL. Fournier looked like an aristocrat wondering why he was having to play against this beast of a man.

That battle was one of my favorite subplots of last night's game. Man, Oladipo was killing it. He's so fun to watch. But so is DLO! They just went at it and it reminded me of battles that Kobe used to get into with talented opponents. DLO is really showing everyone something right now. He's just bringing it.

Oladipo looked very midget-y to me. I though he was like 6'7". This game he seemed like 6'3" at best.

he is. he's 6'4" on a good day, but he's really a sg, so it's tough to find a spot for him. he's improved his shot, to his credit.

@therealdeal Didn't you have a bet with someone else on where Russell will finish in the rookie rankings? I have him at #2 right now, behind KAT.

Ha! Yeah I probably did and I'll definitely lose that bet.

Right now I'd say he's right in the mix for 2nd. Okafor and Porzingis have longevity on their side, but Russell's strong finish could certainly put him over the edge. I was completely wrong about how long it'd take him to adjust to the NBA and I'm glad to be wrong.

There's a quote in there from Steph Curry himself that I haven't seen anywhere else. He said that D'Angelo: “has [a] total skill set. Will be great for this league going forward." Nice words coming from a guy that has heavily influenced D'Angelo's style and the reigning MVP of the league.

    Yeah it's a tough one between those 3. Here's their Per 36.

    21.0 pts, 8.4 reb, 1.5 ast, 1.5 blk, 0.4 stl, 50.8 fg%, 16.7 3p%, 68.6 ft% --- OKAFOR
    18.0 pts, 9.5 reb, 1.6 ast, 2.5 blk, 1.0 stl, 42.4 fg%, 33.3 3p%, 84.3 ft% --- PORZINGIS
    17.2 pts, 4.5 reb, 4.6 ast, 0.2 blk, 1.5 stl, 42.7 fg%, 35.9 3p%, 71.1 ft% --- RUSSELL

Really can't say who's clearly better at this point. It'll come down to who finishes the season the strongest imo.

In 2 years from now, we could possibly look back to this time and realize that this may have been the beginning of the Beginning. How exciting!! :Trophy2:

RIght right now D'Angelo is the hottest and that could be what you need to finish the season in the ROY conversation. Of course right now they're all probably behind Towns who has been fantastic:
    (his Per 36)

    20.6 pts, 10.2 reb, 2.0 ast, 2.0 blk, 0.8 stl, 54.5 fg%, 34.4 3p%, 82.3 ft%

Yowza. The kid does it all.

Still if we're talking about 1st Team All-Rookie honors D'Angelo has put his name firmly in that camp.
