I know what Magic said, but I take it as the showmanship we hope will help us land superstars. It’s great talk, but he can only control his controlables.

Magic can’t do anything if Labron all of a sudden doesn’t want a pitch meeting with him, SA refuses to trade with us unless they get to fleece us, and PG turns wus and doesn’t want OKC fans and Westbrook mad at him, and worse still... none of the three will sign until the other does.

If these narratives turn out to be true, and are the reason why no big names come here this summer, who could have predicted this, and who could have handled it differently. Magic’s honestly done everything right as far as I can tell so far.

I chalk it up to a weird lightning strike that I bet won’t strike twice next year if we aren’t successful this summer

you're saying he sat out almost the entire season just to have an excuse to demand a trade?

no. the main reason he wants out is because of the way the spurs handled his injury and how his teammates reacted to his sitting out for so many games

I changed my mind and I'm willing to give up Kuzma instead of Ingram. The thought of having Ball, George, Ingram, Kawhi, Randle switching everything on defense is too good to pass up. We'd win 60 games just with our defense.

Kuzma, Hart, Moe, Deng and two 1st rd picks would be my offer. Still don't want LLLLLL btw.

Hey, just a thought... how about we stick to both BI and Kuz :p The market for Kawhi is ZERO (no one is paying for an injured rental). Jules, Hart, Zu and future picks, that's it. If they say "no", i offer the same thing (minus Hart) a week from now :D

Yeah I love the kid but retaining Ingram means potentially having two Kawhi's on the same team. That's just mind-boggling.

B.I will be the best player of our young kids ( I have no doubt about it) so if we can keep him , it will be a major plus .

Early ( maybe too early) props go to Kawhi for making it clear it's Lakers or nothing ... unlike another Playoffs p****

How LA can add George/Bron/Kawhi while retaining Zo, BI & Kuz.

Trade for the Expiring deals of Faried (14)/Arthur(7.5) + '19 and '21 Nuggs 1st round picks into our cap space.

Trade Fariad/Hart to the Suns for the non-guaranteed contract of Alan Williams. Waive him.

Trade one of Nuggs 1st, immediate future LA 1st, rights of Bonga/Svi, Zu, TB to Atl for heavily protected ATL 1st (likely to convert to 2 2nds and also have options to pick swap with them) to dump Deng into their cap space.

    Jules caphold (12.5)
    Arthur (7.5)
    Zo, BI, Kuz (14.5)
    = 35m (66m in cap space)

    Max out Bron/PG

Then S&t Jules @22m (1st year), Arthur's expiring, rights to Moe, the other Denver 1st, highly protected Atl 1st, way future Laker 1st unprotected (so it will likely be better than an immediate pick)...

For Kawhi and a salary dumped Gasol.

Since we took up all our cap space by maxing out Pg/Bron, salaries of Jules/Arthur (29.5m) had to be within 125%+100k of Kawhi/Pau's salary (36.1m).

Worst comes to worst, you can include Kuz to SA. But that still leaves us with our big 3 to pair with Zo/BI.

Fill out the roster with ring chasing vets.

If I were in their shoes I wouldn't be concerned about strengthening their conference rival because, like you mention, they would be rebuilding anyway.

However, it would be in their best interest to weaken the Lakers in the long-run (5+ years) by retrieving as many promising young players as they can.

You're right but 5+ years is a heck of a long period for the NBA these days.

You cannot at all predict what the landscape looks like in 5 years. I think it makes no sense to think 5+ years ahead.

San Antonio simply needs to get offers and choose the best offer for themselves without taking into consideration how the deal impacts the other team.

Now this i can do! But obviously the spurs wouldn't do this. At this point the spurs would probably take a lesser package from an East team to avoid them being the reason a super team is built

There's a simple truth to this.

If such a package existed, the Spurs would take it for that reason. There's been no super offer from any team otherwise the Spurs would pull the trigger because they'd rather send him out than help a team they see 4 times a year. So the reality is: nobody has made an offer to beat the Lakers yet, assuming the Lakers have made an offer themselves.

feels like the lakers are playing this exactly like the paul george situation. we still don't know how that one worked out, but we'll know very soon. one of these two teams is going to be a very sad panda on that day.

I think it's a little different. I think with George they were wildly overconfident. It's possible they were overconfident for a reason, we'll see, but this time around they seem to be playing ball. The beat writers got into a little clarification yesterday to make sure everyone understood: the Lakers haven't offered Ingram yet, but he's on the table. The reason: they don't want somebody to assume Ingram is the offer and thus beat the offer with Tatum or whatever the case may be.

With George, we've heard they never really made an offer. The way the Lakers approached George rubbed people the wrong way. I think the Lakers are being way more aggressive with Kawhi.

well, especially considering that it looked like the lakers engineered george's trade demand. in kawhi's case, this whole thing has been brewing for a long time, and it seems like the impetus was from his camp.

ironically, my concern this time is that they seem underconfident (there's a medium, fellas). unless you're really worried that you're not getting lebron and/or PG, you shouldn't be in any rush to trade for leonard. in fact, waiting would be best. the fact that they're actively negotiating lends credence to the idea that securing leonard is key to securing lebron. which, if you're paying attention, means that the original plan wasn't that great, as nobody knew kawhi would even be available when the plan was set in motion.

I think the implication is true, but I'm not sure the two are connected. I think the Lakers just want to do what the Lakers do and that's stack the deck in their favor.

It really comes down to what kind of offers are out there. Are we selling the farm like the Spurs have been leaking? Are we offering Ingram? Are we just touching base to see what the deal is?

I believe the Lakers are still operating under the idea that they're getting LeBron and George. I think they've been lead to believe they're in the lead and they're just trying to see if they can add Kawhi while still getting the other two. Whether that actually goes down, I'm not sure anymore. I think things could change as they get close, but I don't believe for a second that these decisions are still up in the air. I think there's a chance this falls apart, but I don't think getting Kawhi means getting LeBron or vice versa.

I think we could have gotten George last off-season for Russell and Randle and I'm sure people here were against the idea.

At the end of the day it's always the fans that mightily over rate their players and underrate players on other teams. But you can't always abuse the other team. It's not like they always do dumb things.

No matter how this turns out... At the end if the trade falls through people will complain and if it goes through... They'll complain about giving up too much.

This news with LeBron really hurts the Spurs.

Now there's the two headed combination of George and LeBron sitting there in UFA. For the Spurs, they've lost momentum and bargaining power. Now Magic can sit back and tell them "I'm confident I can get the other two without losing anything. We don't need you."

The real chink in this armor might be an outcome where George picks LA, LeBron picks LA, and then out of desperation Philly trades for Kawhi. It's possible we do the Morey thing and just say "we'll clear the room, you come on over" next summer, but that's difficult to pull off. I could definitely see Philly making a big offer on Kawhi if George/LeBron are off the table.

This is a real fluid situation, but I'm guessing now nothing happens until after George/LeBron announce their decisions.
