Sports movies are watched by sports fans, and they aren’t all good.

If it’s entertaining, I’m sure it will be fine and not impact future blockbusters from the Ball Bros

Nah, as long as classics like Hoosiers and Coach Carter have existed, it shouldn't be a problem.

Is Coach Carter really a classic? Or classic in the basketball movie genre?

Just in the basketball movie genre, but that's just me. I was compelled by its message and I generally like Samuel L. Jackson, so I had to check it out. Same with this other movie called "He Got Game" that Denzel Washington starred in which I liked, too, but I always try to forget because a certain former C bag was in it.
