It almost has to come in partially guaranteed pieces - like 1.1 now, 2.2 if he makes it to the regular season, fully guaranteed by some point up to about $6m, and some incentives.
Not feeling this acquisition to be honest... I don't know whose minutes Jianlian will take. Nance? Black? I guess it will depend on the matchups.
I heard he's signed as a shooting C. With just Mozgov and Zubac, there are minutes. Black better suited to PF?
I think Luke is trying to go big, to offset the small ball movement in the league. I don't hate the approach, especially since he understands the schemes for GSW
I'd assume he's here because he provides a skillset that is going to be much needed this year; his shooting. We all know how shooters by reputation come to the Lakers, though, and suddenly can't find their shot. I hope that's not the case with him. If he can stretch the floor at the 4 or 5, and be somewhat average defensively, it's good addition, IMO.
The start of the video is really all I care about (it gets into his private stuff later), but it really cements the financial aspects of signing Yi to the team.
What if Luuke's posse of world class assistants can take a guy like Yi or a Randle or even a DAR or Clarkson ..... and make them considerably better going forward with fine tuning of their games within Luke's systems? I'm expecting that actually from this incredible staff they have put together in the off season. Point being if it were to happen .... a considerably better version of Yi than he has been in the league before would not suck.
It seems to me that with Yi's size he can play the 4 or the 5. I'd imagine that w/his shooting you can pair him with anyone of our bigs; Black, Nance, Randle, and even Timofey at various times. We have some interesting positional versatility and Luke can tinker with different lineups; I think that's a good thing.
