Would It Be More Merciful To Trade Kobe Bryant?

Well if we really start 0-10 - and that is really a possibility right now - I am wondering if those whispers about a trade will get louder. But I don't know what to think about that. I mean it would be horrible to see him go but sometimes I think it would be better for both parties?! But I hope i doesn't come to that. Right now #24 is the only watchable thing on this team on a nightly basis (and Ed Davis).

Kobe had a +/- of -30 yesterday. He was our worst player on the floor. Obviously this means we should trade him.

No way homie. We get the NEXT OSCAR ROBERTSON in Marcus Smart. We trade Kobe off to the C Bags because we r angry at him for signing for too much money. Its not fair :( That will be the ultimate thing to get back at evil Kobe!!! Cuz 'member how we all wanted Marcus Smart? It would be perfect and the C Bags get Kobe and they think hes still good but he is prolly like 100th best player in the league at this point. Marcus Smart is even better than Kobe right now. It will be epic trade!!

Best case scenario.. Randle makes a miracle recovery & comes back by the deadline & we're able to trade him to get Kobe the help he needs to win now.. If not, any combo of other young players we have.. If we absolutely can't pull off a trade to get this team closer to the playoffs, the best thing to do might just be trade Kobe for young players and picks. It's so painful to watch him play his heart out to prove everyone that doubted him wrong only to lose by 20 because he's surrounded by scrubs.

Ok, I hope y'all know I wasn't being serious. Kobe's not going anywhere, it's disrespectful to even think about it.

He gets to pass MJ on the scoring list, and he's the highest paid player in the NBA. Nobody would have given him that contract. I don't feel bad for Kobe. He's getting what he should've expected. I 'm a Kobe fan saying this.

That's good that Kobe's going to put loyalty above a desire to win that you know is killing him on this terrible team.. But they still need to go all out to try to bring in players to help us win this year.. I don't know if Kobe can handle losing to the point where we actually have a chance at keeping that top 5 pick, & I seriously doubt our ability to recruit any major FA's next summer if we finish that bad.

good to see kobe commenting in this way. also glad he recognized the apparent hypocrisy with all the loyalty talk after the 2007 fiasco. i actually think he was right then, and he's right now.

he was obviously on board with management swinging for the fences only this summer; something I and others maybe weren't so sure about. i'm still not convinced that management has chosen the best strategy, but at least they seem to have a plan and are sticking to it. kobe must be privy to the details and be on board for him to say what he said.

Well, let's not be melodramatic. I love Kobe, and he's probably my favorite basketball player of all-time, but the Lakers are always more important. If a deal came along that blew us out of the water & Kobe was on board, yes it'd be ok "to even think about it".

Having said that, I'm fairly certain no one is taking this Kobe at his salary while giving up anything of real value. He's almost certainly going nowhere, and I'm great with that. Just saying, our front office's loyalty is to winning first, and Kobe/everything else second.

And I'm sure the FO has a thousand other deals in line to pair Kobe with another star before even considering trading Kobe.

I 100% agree. I'm not even trying to knock Kobe here because I'm generally a defender, but he chose to accept $24 million per year and this is the obvious logical result. That contract, whether you think it was deserved (it was) or whether Kobe was entitled to it (he was), ensured we couldn't contend for the next two years.

It also ensures we have cap space in 2016 for a particular 'DA REAL MVP'.

Of course he probably didn't think we'd be this bad, but he's handling it publicly like he should after Jeanie defended him, saying he's a Laker for life and all. M and M yesterday had an interesting segment about the pros and cons of Kobe going to the Knicks. I'd kind of like to see that. Kobe and Melo with Fish and Phil. Won't happen but was pretty compelling to listen to.
