Outside from Dwight, I’m not feeling this geriatric version of the 2021-2022 Lakers. Hopefully Rob has something else up his sleeve.
We are indeed currently too old. Experience is great, but did you see the new kids coming up this season and pace they played at, the scoring bursts? We need some more balance, but yes the roster is incomplete, can only complain so much. The Caruso thing though.. that was had an opportunity to match under 10 mil per.. man I’m pissed.
you don't, though. our competitors sure as hell aren't. even without caruso's 9 million on the books, we can't do anything really impactful in terms of bringing in a S&T or using the full midlevel on a surprise guy or something. his 9 million simply cost ownership more money. and this is the major issue. who's coming in that replaces him? our current backcourt is westbrook, ellington, and bazemore. clearly, we're not done dealing--if we were, rob would be fired--but i don't see a single player that can be brought in at a lower cost with anything close to the impact. just killed all buzz.
And it won’t bode well for Gasol again with more blow byes on the perimeter coming at the rim. AD better stay healthy.
This is the main point. This was a money saving move. The Lakers ran right at the cap for years despite having one of the highest incomes in the league. Then you have Lebron, Westbrook, and AD on your roster and you decide to pinch pennies. I understand we don't have GS's Silicon Valley money, and if we we're talking going "all in" by splurging on a player that cost 25 million, I'd understand not doing it. But our "all in" was a 9 million dollar deal for a player who is honestly worth more than that.
On top of that you lose a legitimate asset for nothing. The type of contract for Caruso (valuable roleplayer attached to reasonable money) is easy to move and valuable as you can get some contending and up and coming teams who would want to sign on a deal especially as a 3rd team
thought we got a tpe from Caruso SnT? thats not nothing, 9M+ can pickup a nice player, maybe even one that can come with assests
I posted somewhere a comment from Hollinger? that said we COULD get a TPE from Caruso but haven’t read anywhere that that is how they are structuring the deal.
that would be different than the last two years. but whatever. i'd like it. hope we're smart and start gasol instead of repeating the drummond blunder again. 1. saw someone else talking like chicago still had their MLE because they were planning on taking AC into the exception created by theis 2. i'm not sure how useful the TE is for building right now. they can't be combined, so anyone that comes has to make less than 9 per (assuming byc doesn't effect TPE size, which maybe it doesn't). how many players making less than that are worth more than what having AC all year would have been? i guess it's some insurance, but not much. a larger one from a schroder trade would be more helpful in this regard.
When do the Bulls play in LA? I'm tempted to get a Bulls Caruso jersey and stand in front of Jeanie and Rob all game...which would probably only be 10 minutes until I'm kicked out.
Yeah. A TPE of 9 million is sort of worthless for us, especially when compared to what Caruso would provide for that same 9 million. Players that can contribute for under 9 million are typically players still on their rookie deals.
And if not for Artest, Lakers lose to the C Bags. Arrest contained Paul Pierce all of 6 of 7 games. If Artest only contains him for 5 of 7 games, the Lakers lose.
