Yeah whatever. There was a reason Kobe loved playing with him, whether he had to toughen him to another level or not. He was a supremely skilled and elite player. Knew how to play with Kobe instantly.

Sure , he saw KOBE as a mentor and was open to learning A lot from him and adjust his own game.. he was flexible and that’s why Kobe loved playing with him . He was a great pick up and a spare tire to help Kobe win 2 more … that’s it, and that’s all he was . I think Alot of players contributing to those back to back titles was also a factor .

Fish was a great PG , I don’t really know the definition of Elite anymore, but to say Lakers would still win 5 without him it’s pure boo hockey

I loved Fish first off, but it’s comical you arguing in pure point guard terms (playing in the Triangle) both sides of the ball that HE was elite and in the same breath denying that Gasol was as a big man.

Fish was great point guard for a triangle offense no argument there . You can look at FishS role however you want , sure he didn’t have the numbers, but to say he was trash ( which is the sense I am getting here ) is very comical as well …
As far as Gasol goes , the guy is soft and nobody would even knew who he was if he never came to LA . And the fact you have as a hof er is kinda funny .

    but whatever

Dude you’re just trolling because you’re so far off here and the Lakers organization agrees on that themselves. Gasol’s going up on the wall and Fisher is not. I’m not saying Fish is trash and no one else has either, just that he was not elite in pure point guard terms both sides of the ball.

    What?????
You do realize that before he came, Kobe was going nowhere with that group? He fit perfectly with Kobe, was extremely skilled, hit clutch shots, was extremely intelligent, and without him, that last Back to Back run never happens. Give the man credit where it’s due!

I don’t understand why anyone in here is throwing shade on either Pau or Fish. Both were instrumental in winning multiple Chips for the Lakers.

Pau was lucky, sure, lucky to be traded to the perfect situation, but that’s as far as that goes. Everything else he did was based on his incredible skill/talent, and his hard work, BBIQ, etc. Part of the game, the history of the game is who was fortunate to team with who, who was drafted into quality organizations, good health. Plenty of players I would bet had their careers stalled, derailed, damaged, etc because they were drafted by crap franchises, Pau was fortunate to get out of that.

As for Fish, he was not elite, but he was clutch as hell and very special. He wasn’t a true PG, his defense was often very poor, and he couldn’t make a layup to save his life, aside from this one, maybe my favorite layup of all time

But, Fish did one thing, he maximized his talent. He worked his behind off and stayed in incredible shape, and he played as hard as one can. You can’t ask much more of a role player than for them to max their ability out, he did that, and on top of that he was a leader and teammates loved him. I remember in 2001 when he was injured a lot of the year to start, we were struggling big time. First game he came back we won and he was an instant boost, and the rest is history, team gelled and went on a tear and only lost the 1 game in the playoffs.

i could watch that play all day and not get tired of it. fisher was far from elite and a poor defender, but he always came through in the clutch when it mattered most. he shot over 50% from 3 in the 01 playoffs and over 60%(!) in 03. that's called stepping up when it matters most and he was the perfect complimentary piece for the 3-peat lakers and the kobe-pau lakers

as for pau, he likely gets into the HOF even if he never ends up in LA. not only for his #s in the NBA, but because of his international play

And what you’re saying is wrong. Pau is HOF despite being soft. Fish is a legendary shot maker, but definitely not a great PG. There’s a difference.

also, try consolidating your posts instead 4-5 in a row. Just a recommendation.

Every time we have a big win we have a big letdown. Is it that hard to build off a big win? This is the most disappointing loss until we lose to OKC after being up 20 tomorrow. The lack of ABILITY to play defense by this team is showing, it’s only so much effort, but it’s also personnel, we shipped of or didn’t re-sign our best defenders and now we are paying the price. If some sort of move isn’t made, and I don’t even know what that would be or how, this is a .500 basketball team from here on out if we are LUCKY.
