This, I won’t be watching if he’s on the roster and playing. It’s not enjoyable basketball, it’s ugly as hell, this is a game it’s supposed to be entertainment, and watching Russ gives me a headache.

Then we would have had to get rid of Bron and AD. Rob already had the Kings trade lined up.

Ehhh. Players are going to have ideas and i expect management to shut it down if it doesn’t work. I even think back to when Phil wanted to trade Kobe and Mitch didn’t go for it. Front office should’ve shut it down especially with another deal already lined up.

Rob and crew have a lot to prove.

only thing i'll say is that ham sort of suggested that we won't be seeing that again, one way or another. we'll see if he was bluffing, but it sounded to me like russ is going to play defense or not play.

I have some faith that Ham will put his stamp on this team, but I’m not sure any coach has enough power to hold a player of Russ’… level that accountable. The FO would have to be entirely behind him, and the entire roster/locker room would have to be behind him or it would cause divisions. I guess I’ll just believe it when I see it, but then I wouldn’t be watching, so I guess I wouldn’t see it haha. I just want him gone, not even only because he’s so bad, mainly because trading his salary is our only chance to field a competitive roster.

i know this isn't the optimism thread, but i have to believe the FO won't let russ kill two coaches. if they butt heads, he's out, imo. benched/sent home, whatever.

and i think it will happen quickly.

I think Phil wanted to trade Kobe for Kidd, and then Kobe wanted to trade Bynum for Kidd, Mitch must not have liked Kidd too much, heh
But regardless your point is correct. The front office should have told Lebron and Ludabrow no on that one.

or rob should have felt secure enough in his job to say no. he clearly changed course at the deadline, but it was...much too late.

I just don't think we will be a contender with this nucleus any more. Lebron is too old, AD too brittle and Russ too dumb. There also isn't anything we can get back in a Russ trade that would change that. Rozier and Hayward for sure isn't it.

We'd need a coach of the year performance from Ham, Lebron winding back the clock for one more playoffs, 65 games of DPOY AD plus a full playoffs and for Russ to hit 50% on his mid range jumpers + 34% on his threes + great playmaking and improved defence.

From a roster construction point, we'd need a healthy Nunn, a great trade for THT (like Turner, Lopez, OG or Trent Jr), a great MLE pickup (like Monk or Bamba) and 2 overproducing random vet min pickups (like Batum, Warren, Oladipo or Gary Harris).

    Russ / Nunn / DJ
    Warren / Reaves / Christie
    Lebron / Stan / Ingles
    AD / Batum / Melo
    Bamba / Jones / Howard

The chance of that happening is small and even then - nothing is guaranteed.

lol, i'd just like to make the playoffs, and rozier/hayward type deals could get us there.

folks talking about jumping back into contention this year are wild, man.

don't see how you get warren and bamba with our mini mle and vet mins. nor batum. mayyybe ingles because he's super old and will miss half the year.

to me, the only chance at salvation is a russ trade for multiple players. but i'd like to be wrong.

That's what I'm saying, the chance of Bamba for the MLE, Warren and and Batum for the minimum and a trade for a OG, Turner or Trent is a pipe dream.

yeah, no we can get any of those guys in a trade, imo. i suppose if we threw two unprotected 1sts we could, but we could very bad then, as you said. not worth it.

I didn’t see any “Please Stay” Westbrook billboards posted around town.

    that’s odd

thankfully he opted in even without all the fanfare

clippers about to have 10 guys on the roster making 10m+ including their two big maxes. golden state might have 6-8 depending on extensions, etc., including 4 guys over 25 per. we simply can't compete with that when we're letting caruso walk for 8 per.

Agreed. We've got to be willing to spend to keep up.

On the plus side, I do think the Clippers are going to be faced with the same injury woes they've had for the past couple of seasons.

Why are we doing roster construction in the WMC thread?

    Don't make any sense.

There's an FA thread you can do that in.

    Goodness.
