The drama can end if you play it out for one more year. You'd be rid of the biggest bust trade in Lakers history, and the dumbest backtracker around. Lakers have Anthony Davis still. Try and build around him should he be healthy.

My WMC: what exactly was the plan if Nets situation didn't implode? Rob had no way of knowing that was going to happen. These negotiations with our new players happened before that (unless we went the honorable Mitch route). It's clearly an incomplete roster with holes that were going to require trades regardless. Rob intentionally backed himself into a corner that's getting smaller. I just think it's an awful offseason strategy that's built purely on a gamble and relying on other teams (teams that don't like you, as abeer points out above) to save your a** in what is your contract year. This fails and you are gone.

I've discussed this a few times. There are been trades and signings that didn't happen that actually ended up working out for the Lakers. Aldridge, Melo, etc. I believe this is one of those situation that would be better in the long run if it didn't go through. Yes, it sucks we have to go into another year knowing we wont have a chance to win it all, but catering to these bums needs to have a limit. The Lakers are not the Pacers or the Timberwolves. The Lakers will always be relevant and the Lakers will always have a chance at improving. They also would have Anthony Davis for 2 more years and I actually think AD would be all in on the next phase.

Kwame Brown was #1 for 15 years. He was finally eclipsed last season. Never thought in a million years that would happen. And at least in the end Kwame was a piece that got the Lakers Pau Gasol, which in my opinion, was the greatest trade in Lakers history in terms of it's importance.

We didn’t hate Nash’s game and fit at least. The opposite.

Jerry was a consultant at the time in Memphis, no proof he helped but who knows. Memphis wanted to shed salary. Memphis went to the playoffs with Gasol three years in a row and went 0-12. One of those things where everyone knew something needed to get done for all parties.

Nash trade was bad but at least Nash didn't disintegrate the team's locker room and culture. His nerve thing hit at the worst time and the Lakers had to eat it.

yeah, nash cost two 1sts but his salary didn't cripple any other moves, nor did he actively make us worse (he just didn't ever play). both 1sts were protected, too, iirc. we also gave up nothing of value, whereas we gave up three quality rotation players for russ.

russ is the worst trade we've made since i've been following. kwame's close, but the short-term impact wasn't nearly as devastating.

If Jerry west wasn’t there no way we get Pau Gasol .. feel free to change my mind …literally no team had any interest in KB !

Brick, bar none, was the worst trade ever, no one wanted it, fans or ownership, even Pelinka I would think, but it was still done at the behest of LeBron and AD. We lost 3 rotation players, who, each and individually, are far far more useful player than Brick. And we also wasted a 1st round pick.

We definitely got an assist from Jerry on that one. Of course the trade turned out to be not so lopsided as we gave Memphis Marc Gasol in that deal who turned out to be a heck of a player for their franchise.

You mean like the one ring he played a huge part in delivering his first year? After all the AD pilers on and detractors get their way and convince him that LA fans suck, so he leaves first chance he gets, and LeBron's gone too, they'll see what it's like again to be hoping for lotto picks each year. Any picks we may still have anyway. :speechless:
