The FO is starting to really put a damper on my hopes for the Lakers. 3 years of this crap and everyone is saying the same thing about us.

This is definitely not good going into FA next year. Negative report after negative report. Something has to change if they don't turn it around.

Did Kobe say "btw lamarcus, after this year imma stay for 3 more years, I want 18M per season"

I'm mad at myself for getting sucked in, totally changing my focus to our young guys and Kobe.

If we completely strike out, which seems like a distinct possibility right now, then we need re reevaluate the effectiveness of Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak both. They're the ones who have been given the opportunity to create a team from scratch and so far it's not looking good.

I think Jeanie said if we're not contenders by 2017, heads will roll (that could be Jim and Mitch).

With the amount of bigs that were out there, its an embarrassment not to come away with one. The FO really has to look at themselves and evaluate where they went wrong.

Last year, Jim said he'd step down if the Lakers weren't contending in 3 or 4 years. So that could be 2017 or 2018.

This will be blunt but is not meant to be disrespectful. For me, the elephant in the room is the ridiculous contract given to a declining Kobe Bryant. I mean, showing respect and feel-good vibes yada yada are all well and good, but what can you really do with that business-wise? They touched on this topic on AM710...all of the selling points the organization put forth for that gesture have amounted to jacksquat. Generous loyalty? Nobody cares! Nobody wants to come here. We can't keep resting on our laurels and living on past achievements and what we DID before. And like it or not, Kobe is quickly becoming part of that past. It's kinda ugly and brutal, but that's sports. Maybe it's time to start establishing a new post-Kobe era identity. What are we going to do? What are we capable of doing? Who are we? Yes Kobe isn't dead yet and he should be part of this process, but it's time to start evolving. Luckily, we have some nice young pieces that will hopefully help us do just that.

Cool...only two or three more years. I hope a Laker fan runs into him at Santa Anita or Hollywood Park...give him a reminder.

I know this is a WMC thread but everyone needs to calm down and step away from the ledge.

I'm disappointed with how things turned out but I don't think it has anything to do with Mitch or Jim or the Lakers legacy, etc.

It boils down to the team is not ready to compete for championships yet. LMA wants to play for a championship. Think about it for a sec .... who would you play for if given the same amount of money? A franchise that has consistently been in the hunt, has the best coach in the game and can make quick fixes to be in the hunt - OR - a young, unproven team, that has a okay coach and is several years away from being in the hunt.

For the FAs it comes down to the most attractive roster. Period. The Lakers are not there yet. If the Lakers strike out this offseason, it is not a big deal to me. They will rebound like always has been done before. I remember during the rebuild with Nick, Elden, Eddie, etc. I cannot recall a big name FA signing other than Shaq.

Mitch has deftly put the Lakers in a great position by shedding salary and have reloaded with young talent. What's not to like?

What's not to like is being used by FAs as a bargaining chip and laughed at in the process. What's not to like is going all out for these FAs and making fools of ourselves.

The FO is revealing some underlying incompetence that makes me very nervous.

To be fair, it's NOT that bad yet, but it could get that bad quickly if we end up missing on a guy even like Monroe.

If our best addition this off-season is Omer Asik or Robin Lopez, we're in for a long season AND a long few years after that.

At this point though, I think we will miss out on Monroe and Lopez. This was my fear before, the Lakers waiting around taking their time with the meetings for the top tier platers letting the FA market dry up in the process.

It's been less than 24 hours, so I'm not sure they're waiting around necessarily. For all we know they've got a deal in place with Monroe if the meeting with DeAndre doesn't go well.
